Me, I just use common shrooms and wild foods I'd gathered for the year. Spring is a good time for those red "salmonberries" (besides making jam and wine out of 'em), why not use it for emergency food for the mines. I'd chomp mostly on wild foods I'd saved up.
Or, if you're rolling in cash, you can always buy salads and spahetti from Gus.
Then omlets are simple if you have a lot of chickens. The cactus fruit you forage in the desert, before you go in, is very good as well.
I remember my first playthrough when I still raised animals goat milk cheese was my answer often enough for a good healing item.
Common mushrooms are actually good gifts for a variety of people.
Very easy to make
Root Plater (1x Winter Root + 1x Cave Root) (At least 3 / 10 Ideal)
Coffee (30, tops) (You can snag easily 250+ Via the Winter Beach Give away whatever its called (Wiki it) (And with 1 bean you can pretty much have endless beans / coffe in a few seasons)
Cheese * Gold Star* 90 HP and cheep to sell
Spicy Eles when your Root Plater Runs out (From Killing stuff) (At least X / 5 Ideal)
Age your wine you'll be better off anyways.
Cheese all the way. It also makes for a *Gold Star* "Liked" gift for just about everyone. But so does Flowers and other cheaper options, just comes down to convenience not having to go forage those items.
