So at first, I really loathed Haley and Alex, because they reminded me of those people who act so ♥♥♥♥♥♥ to you in rl despite how nice you were to them for no damn reason. However, as I got to experience all of their heart events, my impression of them changed--especially for Haley. I still feel a little iffy about Alex, because I don't think his past is an excuse to make up for the ugly words that spilled out of his mouth. That's just me though.
In the end, I didn't really like Maru that much mainly because I felt like we weren't anything regardless of whether I was friends with her for two years or when I was dating her. I actually felt pretty neglected tbh. Idk lol.
Villagers:
I don't really detest any of the villagers. No actually, Lewis is one. That one heart event of his pretty much explains his personality and priorities.
Even if it wasn't, it's still not an excuse. Why even have NPCs that you can daily talk to if they don't provide anything?
He's just a Sheldon Cooper. You know, normies' idea of what bright people act like.
even with the whole relationship thing with the wizard
Now, when it comes to the most hated, I'd probably say Haley. I understand that she becomes sweet and caring later and after marriage, but I just can't dedicate the time to her. She's stereotypically snotty, rude, and overall a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ person, and they only did that because of her appearance. They wanted a stereotype.
Another person I dislike very much is Clint. He's overall a very whiny person, and he treats women like prizes (i.e. when you marry Emily, he congratulates you on "winning" her). And also, when you give him a gift he doesn't like, he tells you "This makes me depressed," like the gift you've given him is the sole reason he's upset. He's an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. And you may say "Well other characters are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ too!" But Clint is different. He claims he's a nice guy and refuses to own up to it. If it were Shane, for example, he would (and does) own up to being an ass to you. Clint justs needs to get over himself. Not to mention the fact that Clint even likes emily is really creepy, since Emily looks to be about 21-25 and Clint is made to look possibly mid-30s or early 40s.
Those are my two, but I would also have to agree with Landwalker04 on Demitrius and Pierre.
so what?
Here's my take on this, and I'll get to my personal favorite and least favorites in a bit. I feel as though the characters are really relatable, and you just have to get to know them. People may not like the fact that, seemingly, the only way to befriend people is to give them things they like, but that isn't even true. If you just simply talk to the townspeople every day, you raise your relationship with those you talk to slowly over time. There are even times when you have the option to choose certain dialogue options, and it's so random it sometimes throws me for a loop. Now, you could be honest with your answers, or you could tell them what they want to hear. Personally, I try to mix the two and tell them something that they wouldn't mind hearing, but that relates to something I would say.
What I see in this thread is that most people dislike certain characters, but they haven't gotten to know them yet. I'll be honest, I haven't gotten to know each character to a 10 heart level, but I will say this much. First impressions mean nothing. This game is FULL of character development. I've had many playthroughs where I've married Abigail, Leah, and Sebastian. And I like them alright. Leah especially, because she's an artist like I am.
One thing that really bugs me to no end, is Caroline. She's SO hypocritical! There's a dialogue you can find by just talking to her randomly and she will complain about her daughter dying her hair so much... when in fact Caroline has green hair. But that doesn't make me hate her. I know plenty of people who are hypocritical sometimes, but they aren't bad because of it. And of course, I know people who are.
Haley. I am very confident when I say I cannot STAND Haley. Yeah, she warms up to you or whatever but... she's so self absorbed it's ridiculous. She's fake. Her appearance is whatever, I don't care what she looks like, she's an absolute garbage character. Emily on the other hand, I really like Emily.
As for my favorite, it's hard to say. I feel sympathy for many characters, and feel bad that I haven't seen anyone mention Kent or Gus. But you know what? Linus and Krobus. Those are in my top faves. Also, I feel kind of bad for Kent, but also bad for Sam in a weird way, even though from first impressions, I somewhat dislike Sam. But, I have an open mind.
Linus because he tries to stay positive, despite being homeless. I so despirately wish there were a quest or dialogue or SOMETHING where I could let him live on my farm. He's a bit too old to marry, but I would love to have him work/live on my farm. I mean, why can't we help him out once we're rich from grinding blueberries and rare seed? I feel for him because he also thinks that everyone doesn't like him, he doesn't feel like he's welcome, when it's quite the opposite in fact. In one scene, Gus finds him digging through the trash and gives him food because he doesn't want anyone to go hungry, which makes me hella respect Gus for that. Linus has social anxiety like Clint, but he isn't whiny like Clint is, which is another character that I dislike. I could go on about Clint, but that would make this post much longer than it needs to be, and already is. Linus is great, because he's humble and HE EVEN SENDS YOU FOOD WHEN HE HAS GOOD FISHING DAYS, EVEN THOUGH HE'S HOMELESS. I give him food as often as I can.
Krobus because he has a unique personality, despite living alone in the sewers. He has managed to not go crazy from being a hermit, which indicates he's strong willed. He is different from the other void creaters, but he still calls them his friends, even if they may not always accept him, which is another reason I LOVE Krobus. I feel like I really connect with Krobus, even if I may be waaay over analyzing him. He makes his little money from his little shop, and likes to chat every once in a while, and he's always friendly. Friendly, and misunderstood by his peers AND humans. I haven't reached full hearts with Krobus yet, but I fully plan on it because I am deeply interested in seeing if there's any kind of interesting backstory I have yet to uncover.
Sorry for the novel, I'm really passionate about Stardew Valley xD
P.S. DO NOT HATE ON ALEX, HE HAS A REASON FOR BEING THE WAY HE IS <3
P.P.S. Clint is a creepy old man. Too old for Emily, I think. Kinda weird that he's crushing on her, but I find it funny that she's oblivious to it. Anyone else agree?
not true at all
we'll get back to this later
because her daughter has a "beautiful natural haircolor" while she thinks she doesn't have one herself? she might be a bad example, but may this be due to her having issues with herself? you want to construct excuses for the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ behaviour of other characters, but you did not think this one through.
Now that's the most popular opinion from people who "haven't gotten to know them yet"
spoiler alert: he chose to live that way. so there's that
You made that social anxiety one up from the garbage can scene? he wants to retain his dignity in front of the other villagers while still living his chosen lifestyle, letting nothing go to waste. hardly anxiety. as for Clint, please refer to Haley
spoiler alert:
there isn't
♥♥♥♥ Alex
