Fishing while playing with a mouse...
Hi!!

It probably was asked before, I'm new to the game, fishing is tough, and I play with a regular mouse on my laptop.

When the fish window appears, the left-green bar has to be located where the fish is, right? If the bar goes too high, or doesnt touch the fish area, then the right-bar goes down. Fine.

But what do you do actually to have the green bar staying on the fish? Do you hold left click? Do you click left-click once? I don't understand what to do. I tried both, holding the left click, or clicking multiple times, never caught the fish. Anything I'm missing?

Thanks :)

Think of a pinball machine and try to keep the bar up following the fish (tap clicking for the most part), otherwise try a different area/location to fish. Each fish has their own pattern to them. If fish jumps all over place I would just ignore those ones and try and catch an easier fish or change area.

Right. And how do I keep the green bar on the fish? Clicking fast, hold the click down, gently click, move the wheel, press right and left click at same time, ? Which one? I've tried all of them, and green bar always jolts around.

So an easier area to fish with easier fish to catch. Mmmm, interesting. I always picked up the first whatever place I could find (generally on piers or end-of-islands spots).
I play with a laptop and a wired mouse as well. It took me a bit to figure it out, but once you do and the more levels you get, the easier it is. What you have to do is use a combination of holding and fast clicks with the left mouse button. You hold the left mouse to raise the bar and the fast left clicks to keep the bar in the general area. When the bar falls, hold the left click till it raises close to where you want the bar. The length of time you hold the left mouse button is the amount the bar will raise. When the bar is off the fish, the right side bar will fall as you have noticed. When that bar reaches the top and the fish bar is still on the fish at any point, you get the fish. As you level, it gets easier. Some fish are harder than other fish cause they move up and down fast. Hope that helps!

Don't worry about the fast fish that jump around a lot, focus on the ones that aren't too hard for ya.
Although the ones that do move around are usually more valuable.

It is hard at first due to the player skill (IRL and in game) making it a bit more of a challenge. As you progress in skill your own bar increases in size which makes the whole challenge more of a relaxing exercise.

If you want to know more there's plenty of tips and stuff on interwebs on fishing.

This is how I do it:
I left click. But rather than spamming that click button, I hold the button down and let it bounce gradually on the screen whilst keeping it on the fish. Spamming the click button in hopes to keep the fish right in the center will probably increase your chances of losing the fish as you're making your life more difficult for yourself. So my tip is to just hold the button, never click repeatedly. Hope that made sense!

Left click on the tackle, right click on the fishing pole.

Well each area has a different selection of fish to catch, hence the variety. Also day/night, and some that area season specific. I have not mastered the mechnic, but do find the fish at the mine lake to be some of the easier ones. Some of the river fish are simple as well depending on season.

Rain causes some of the tricky ones to come out sometimes... but you still get some easy ones depending on location even then.

Having the mouse button down in the "clicked" position makes the bar go up.

Also keep in mind that when you let go and the green bar drops, it doesn't go down at a constant speed, it gets faster. So do a little bit of clicking as it goes down to slow the fall so you can control it a bit more.

Thanks very much for your replies everyone. I've managed to keep reloading my game before the day ends, and practiced fishing for 3 real hours. I'm getting it now. Practice surely is the key.

What helps? Bobbers (especially cork when you get higher) and fishing food. And a lucky day. Keeping the green bar around the fish is it! Good luck!

For what it's worth, even if you don't catch any fish, and only trash or seaweed, simply the act of practicing fishing still raises your skill level. So, keep at it!

Best way I've heard it described is to "pulse" your clicks. So hold it down, release. Hold it down, release.
