That's unnecessary. The trees outside the farm do have fixed spawn points and won't spread their seeds anyway and for the trees on the farm it's way more effective to just cut it down and to replant new ones by hand. Otherwise you'll waste some space, which could already grow new trees.
I've found the exact opposite of what you described on the farm and, apparently, so has the op. If you clear your farm, especially in the early days, you run the risk of lots of initial wood but few seeds. This is why it's important to either ensure that there is going to be natural regrowth or that you have enough seeds to replant where you want them to grow.
