Getting Background Grass to Grow?
Ok, so ive played stardew valley for about 40 hours so far, and im on my 3rd or 4th year. im at the point where i want to make my farm look REALLY nice. however, the dirst as the ground isnt particularly pleasing to my eye. right under the shack i live in, theres green grass. Grass that cant be removed. its just the background, like the dirt is. Or when you go to Marnies Ranch, its basivally all grass there except for the dirt pathway. What i want to know is, how do i make my own grass background and place it where i want? Or CAN I even do that? Thanks a lot for the help!

(just to be clear i dont mean the grass entity that you cut down with the scythe. i mead the grass that in real life is like actual grass at foot level)

An alternative to map editors (if you're ok with something besides grass) is to use some of the Floors available. The Straw Flooring looks pretty decent as a barn yard. It certainly beats staring at dirt all the time too. The downsides are, of course, not being able to grow anything there though.

Oh, are you able to place flooring outside? like hardwood and stone flooring too? i thought that was just for indoors. unless you mean the paths?

Hardwood, Stone, Crystal, Metal, Straw. All the flooring can be placed anywhere. Much like the thread I saw recently about someone planting Grass EVERYWHERE (including inside NPC houses), you can put Flooring/Paths anywhere.

I tried to turn the little fenced paddock next to the community center into a picnic area (table and benches) just for aesthetics. Got the wood floor down no problem, then realized that furniture only goes inside your house. Discovered shortly after that that you can't put furniture (chairs, tvs, tables, etc) inside barns/coops either. Floors work fine, 'crafting' furniture works fine.

There is a mod that replaces the craftable dirt paths with plain grass so you can place your own grass without doing map edits. There's another one that replaces the yellow dirt texture with a grass texture so that the yellow dirt simply doesn't show up at all in the game.
