Kegs in the shed
I'm working on trying to maximize the number of kegs I can get into a shed. The best I have been able to do so far is 67. Anyone find a denser layout?

what's your layout? ive only counted 59 spots thatll allow for interactions of all buildables xP
yea, i ended up figuring that out yesterday xD thats the best layout for it to be honest. at least thats all i could figure out. only thing is that i substitute that Middle Wall Preserve Jar for a chest.

I have 3/4 sheds with that layout. The First filled with nothing but Recyclers*, the Second with 2 rows of Furnaces, 2 rows of Seed Makers, and 1 row of Kilns and then the 3rd full with Kegs. the 4th one is empty because i still need to aquire all the Iridium for the Crystalarium :P

*My Hill Top River has 138 Crab Pots that make for a hefty profit at the end of the season. I could have gone up to 150-160 Crabpots but im using the land near Grandpas grave as a Bee House area so i couldnt utilize that side of the river.

Oh, nice. The shed's farm footprint is 7X3... I didn't realise that Robin could build TARDISes.

Dumb question, but how do you access the corner units? I can get the one in the bottom left, but I have trouble accessing stuff that's top-left from me.

Really? How hard were you trying to access it? Sometimes you just need to click around to get to it; I tried this settup and it worked fine for me. Worst-case scenario you could always wait for an adjacent keg to become empty and destroy it.

Are you using the mouse, or the controler? The mouse hits it just fine. I use my controler to do most things, but keep my mouse handy for this sort of thing.

Same here. I use the controller for everything besides certain placing of items and harvesting. Both crops and machines. It is a lot easier with the mouse.

That would be my problem--I currently use the controller almost exclusively. I'll try collecting the stuff with my mouse. Thanks!

I have this problem as well with a mouse... it's annoying.. It seems if you aim for the barrel in the upper left or right, it doesn't work, but if you aim for where the "keg's face" is you'll connect.

If you're looking to fit as many kegs as you can, fill it all in, but as you put down kegs, fill the one you put down, so that it has something in it, then put one outside as a sign for whenthey finish. When they finish, just collect from a keg and destroy it as you go, but if you're using perserve jars, that layout is better and less of a time waster. Also works with the casks

I just found this out, but if you use the right control stick when holding the fruit/veggie/whatever, you can hover it over the keg you want to use in the corner as long as your standing near it. So the "optimal" layout works as per the wiki.

Personally I run 1 shed & 1 barn full of kegs. Fits 198, 2 in the house for that even OCD 200.

Also, if you cask anything, do starfruit. 800,000 for a quality of life layout (120-ish casks), and if you filled the whole thing up and carved your way through it every 2 seasons, that's an extra 1.5 million. I find it worth it, but I stick to the QoL layout.

The problem with casks is that they are limited in number. You run into a throughput problem. Like yes, this batch sees a lot more value, but the casks aren't ready for the next batch, nor the one after that, nor after that even. And since casks only work in the cellar, you have a pretty hard limit on how many you can have. Meanwhile you can have thousands of crops/kegs. And those crops/kegs will finish their batches much sooner than the casks will finish theirs.

Not really sure on what CA was thinking with casks. They seem like THEE end-game artisan thing on paper, but there's a throughput problem for end-game which is when you can start doing mass-crops. So if they're not for end-game, that means that they should be early game right? Helping you reach quality tiers for events/gifts right? Except it costs a quarter million to unlock in the first place. Even knowing what you're doing, you'll struggle to make that before the fall fair where the quality could actually be helpful, except the casks take too long even if you can get to them before then. So casks are in this weird limbo state of late game, but not end game.

By the time you should be thinking about casking starfruit and have a green house of ancient fruit, you should have enough hardwood to go beyond filling up an entire cellar, so it's not hard to make or time consuming. Also why starfruit works so well, because if you make enough for a year (every 2 seasons, basically, max you'd need is 189 for a full cellar, 378 total) it's an extra 1.6 mil or 3 mil. from a 1 season crop that is the most profitable casked. You just toss it in, figure out what day it'll be done, and forget about it mostly. Also what you spend on the cellar space you make back easy from it.

Of course ancient fruit is your main profit, 200 kegs bringing in a little over 460k weekly. In the end, the most profitable thing to do above all is simply make as many kegs as you can, and plant ancient fruit from Spring to Fall. Second most profitable thing is pigs, provided you want to pick up hundreds of truffles. Lastly is a ancient fruit green house (you could do the outside some too) & a starfruit keg system.

I'm not going to frown at an extra 1.6 mil from a quality of life cellar a year though.

Now, if you want to make cellars your main thing, you can hit up mods. I don't feel that was intended to be as 12 mil a year from 116 ancient fruit kegs every 6-7 days + 1.6 mil is insanely good. 200 kegs is 21 mil. And as said, ancient fruit focused farm? You could go well beyond 50 mil a year if you take the time to make the kegs. A better question is wth are you going to spend 50 mil+ on.
