too dang slow
you walk way too dang slow. im tired of sloooowly walking on the same exact dirt road to get to the town. im tired of spending hours sloooooooowly getting from one house to the other in the town. and most of all, im tired of sloooooooooooowly wandering around aimlessly in said town trying to find someone to give a quest item to since this game doesnt know what a functional minimap is. please let me run. holding down the d key for 3 minutes is not fun. does anyone else feel the same, or is it just me?

still love the game tho

Your first farm building from robin should always be a stable imo, the horse is a life saver. Also later when you unlock the minecart system you have even faster accessibility, so don't stress it and definitely don't do more than you can reasonably do at this stage in the game. Don't spread your butter too thin

Also technically you ARE running by default, there is a slower walk speed

Did you check off the "Auto Run" in settings?

Though, if you want to go faster, get a horse or buy coffee.. it'll help you a lot.

"Functional minimap".. Not every game has a minimap that tells you where NPCs are. You're complaining about a game because you don't know the routine of the townsfolk yet. Just google their schedules or learn it by playing the game and just seeing where they are at different times.

If you can't be bothered to wait to buy a horse or a coffee, there's mods to make you go faster I believe.

There's actually a mod that makes you run faster on Nexus Mods, I use a lot of quality of life mods that help with things like this, like telling you the times that crops will be done and machines, locations of villagers on the map, etc, nothing too broken, but just things you think would come with the game :)

Regarding walking slowly...I actually agree. When you consider how fast time goes in the game...
Think about this...

It can take 10 in game minutes to walk through a single room farmhouse.
Now how is this not completely ridiculous?

I get everything I need to do done, so no, it is not ridiculus, you wanna run faster, gets mods or coffee or check the always run option in options

Uh huh. Just because you got everything you need done doesn't mean it's not ridiculous. Look at some of the near impossible achivements that some games have, or stuff that's just plain tedious. Starbound's Destroyer of Worlds achivement anyone? I got that achivement legitimately, so does that make it not ridiculous even though it's mining 10,000,000 blocks? Point being, the fact it takes 10 in game minutes to pass through one room, when if the game's house was sized up to scale for real life I could CRAWL through the room faster than that IS pretty ridiculous.

I think it's more the combination of:
-How big of an advantage both the minecarts and the horse gives later
-How much you actually have to walk to each destination with no activity along the way most of the time (though this depends on your daily routine, you might not even need to walk into the town for several days at all)
-How fast time goes in this game by default
If I judge time wasted on walking based on how far my farm is from town and how much time passes to walk there and back, it is ridiculous. God forbid you miscount the amount of seeds you need, that another 2-3 hours wasted going back to Pierre.
While I definitely see the logic of the design here, since the more further you get the more activity you can do on a daily basis which kind of makes sense, I still think the speed of the time could be tweaked at least a little bit. It's a game about relaxing but it CAN be frustrating early on to try to make each day worth something while still being able to go to bed in time (even if something that's the exact mindset you should try to avoid in this game).

With all that said, having a better daily routine at least until you unlock the minecarts and/or the horse and knowing the general routine of the NPCs can help a lot.
Or just this mod like I do ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This and so much this! Honestly I had a hard time getting into this game because at the start the sheer speed of the game makes it frustrating and stressful, not fun. The fact time passes when you are in a building when many other games of this type, time is paused while inside, is one primary problem that I have with it. I ragequit initially a couple years ago when I was in fall of year one and I was saving up to buy a barn. I noticed that it was getting really late, so I rushed home to try to go in bed, and my freaking cat blocked my bed and I ended up passing out on the floor. When I woke up in the morning I noticed a good chunk of my money was missing, and a letter in my mailbox said that mayor lewis stumbled upon me napping and someone was digging through my pockets. Like...why the hell are you people in my freaking HOUSE? I think they fixed it to where you don't lose money if you pass out in your house but it certainly wasn't when it happened to me.

Yep, pretty much the same thing when I first played this game, couldn't pass past my first Spring. The game just looked too much fun though so I came back around a year later to try it again, except I made some changes with mods to make the game less "scary" in the early game (just slower time and reworked fishing pretty much), and it made the whole experience a million times better. I'm usually all for the vanilla experience when it comes to modding, but I just couldn't play this game without some QoL mods.

I agree that its kinda annoying, but I'm fine with it. Also, there's a mod on Nexus that shows where the NPCs are on the minimap. It works well.

Yeah, same here. I just can't get into the game without mods. Especially stuff like quick stack to nearby chests, and being able to label chests... Why is this stuff not in the game by default?

You seriously went and did a Rage Quit? Of Stardew Valley?

...maybe you should see a therapist, dude - sounds like you have some serious anger issues that need to be worked out :steamfacepalm:

>This game doesn't actually have a time limit
>I doubt there's a single plant on this planet that can fully mature in a matter of days like the crops in this game do
>IRL fishing is actually just as slow, if not slower, than it is in this game. (probably slower, since time actually freezes when you have a fish on the line in Stardew)
>Berries, mushrooms, fruiting trees, and tree stumps all refresh overnight.
>Cooking takes no time
>Talking takes now time
>Crafting takes no time
>Organizing your inventory takes no time
>Milking cows takes no time
>You can harvest an entire farm's worth of crops in a single morning
>You can cut down a literal forest in a single afternoon
>I can usually go atleast 10-20 floors in the mines in a single day, which IIRC is way better than I ever did in Rune Factory
>Brewing takes a matter of hours or days instead of weeks and months
>Aging wine takes months instead of years

IMO, the main problem isn't the speed, it's how fast you're judged "in the end" (i know you can get the re-evaluation and it's not affecting anything at all). You feel rushed, to get nice thing like carts because they give you so much spare time. But at the same time, you're forced to get items you're not supposed to get early (like fire quartz) - so you either rush on deeper floors instead of thoughtfully inspecting each one, or try to cheese it with geodes.
Same goes for a lot of things. How you're supposed to, let's say, get a greenhouse before winter of the first year without "cheesing" it? Especially both Artisan and Animal Bundles. A lot of things can be abused by reloading a day for better catch\geodes\cart goods\NPC presents and at the same time you need to follow the very tight schedule to get money very early. So instead of playing "normally" and doing things in moderation/variety you are slaved out in first few seasons to lazing around in year two. And in sadly don't work backwards - some things are basically useless\much less effective if done on the second year.
So, IMO, it would be much better if you have more time before "evaluation", like 3 years even if conditions you have to met will be more strict. So you can "take things slowly" if you have a decent plan ahead and don't get BH because you're 10 minutes late to the shop and the Marine have her fitness next day.

There are a lot of games that you don't "label" chests. We have color-changing chests like a lot of games to distingish which is which. But he is adding signs to the game.

Seriously, the walking speed was the main thing that put me off from playing at first, I installed the mob CJB Cheat Menu simply for setting my Walk Speed to 5x
and regarding the Minimap, NPC Map Locations mod is also really helpful
