is this game 100% story based?
Im looking for another farming simulation game similar to slime rancher. Staxel or whatever its called looks good, but has some bad reviews. This game is another potential canidate for something i'd play but i hear its focused around story. am i absolutely R E Q U I R E D to follow the story?

there is a story but its more the story of your farm type thing, and its interaction with the town, the only scripted events are sorta showing you around town and new area unlocks.

honestly you dont even have to do the unlocks you can just farm all day everyday and lose nothing

There are some loose goals one could call a story, but not like, a super hardcoded must-do-to-advance story. More like a questline that you can do at your liesure.
oh, so there's just basically no story and im just free to manage the farm?

noice

There is only an opening story (2 min or something) that explains why you have the farm, other than that there is no storyline. however, if you interact with npcs and become friends witth them they have a small story line per npc to learn a bit more about them. but gameply wise there is no story to follow, just lore and some events. this is closer to minecraft (farming, fishing, and mining to some extend (mining is in a more rigid setting, no break everything but half rng mineshafts))

this is the spiritual succesor for harvest moon (now ''story of seasons'') but on the PC instead of nintendo consels (though its on the switch now too as a close the loop idea)

anyway, watch some videos to grasp what you can do,the comunity love this game and new updates are still coming out (new content)
I still have a lot of fun with it so I would reccomend it

It's like a game except there is no main quest and only side quests.

i say "the story" ist the repair of the community center.
and you have to do it to unlock all features of the game

@Turo So, we could also say there's 2 endings to the "story". Repair the Community Center or be an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and help Joja. :2017cat:

Each character in the game has a story. But it's up to you to decide if you want to explore and/or progress any individual story.

Basically the answer to your question is "no, there isn't a story."

You work on the things you want to work on, in the order you want to work on them. At the same time the seasons are turning and days, weeks, years go by.

Wait there no story at the end of the story?? (just kidding), but this game is worth grabbing 110%, definetly one of the best games on steam or anywhere in general.

The only 'story' is that your person was given an envelope, containing the deed to your farm from your dying grandpa, and you were told to open it when your soul is about to die, more or less. So your person who at the time was living in the hectic city life, leaves via bus to stardew valley and you take over the farm which was apparently abandoned for quite a number of years.Beyond that...there's really no story. NPCs have their own quirks and stories and whatnot, but... there's really no overarching story to the game as a whole.
