Bat Cave or Mushrooms?
Putting profit aside, which looks better: the Bat Cave or the Mushrooms? Can you see the bats flying around in your cave, or only eyes and the fruits that appear?

Awesome, thank you !!

Sorry, I don't remember, I tried them only once and was so disappointed with the outcome that I restarted my game soon after. I admit, I probably did not give it long enough.

Hmm.. alright, thank you !!

There is a mod that lets you re-choose which cave to go with the following years (roughly about the time you get the option 1st time around) so you can be all mushrooms 1st year, then next year its all fruit, and back to mushrooms on following year and fruit year after that and so on.

"Quick! To the BAT CAVE!!! Nana nana nah! Bat Cave! Bat Cave, Bat Cave!!"

I've been using Mushroom myself with the automate mod and its great since whenever mushrooms pop up, the chests just suck the mushrooms itno it right away.

Mushrooms. You get more rare stuff for bundles as you do not have to bet on luck to get Magic Mushrooms. The Artisan Bundle is the only bundle that really need some kind of planning, but with the traveling merchant you can quite easily get enough fruits to fill that before winter year 1. The problem is the animal bundle which also needs planning. All you need to do is to plant the fall trees in late spring or very early summer and you are set. Then when you get the greenhouse just plant 3 of all trees in the greenhouse and they produce every single day.

Mushrooms are usually better. The fruit bats are "sometimes" helpful for completing the Community Center, but it's up to luck.

Perks of bats: With the Foraging perk, can get double and iridium-star fruit, which is good for gifting or making wild seeds. (For example, getting 2 iridium-star peaches or oranges or whatever the hell Robin loves, would be a better gift than just a plate of spaghetti.)
Downside of bats: Slow spawn of fruit. Sometimes you'll get 5 in a week, sometimes you'll go a week without getting any.

Perks of mushrooms: Can make life elixir or whatever; free healing every few days so you can not eat your crops. Can turn common mushrooms into Fall Seeds via seedmaker. Morel and chanterelle (or whatever) only spawn seasonally, and are used in several recipes.
Downside of mushrooms: Very few people really like mushrooms. Mainly for your own use, such as eating or selling. No benefit from any skill perks.

Absolutely Mushroom. Bat cave just doesn't generate enough fruits, and most fruits are stuffs that you can forage. Mushrooms can be a great source of energy early on. In terms of look, they are pretty much the same.

I always go mushrooms as well. They take a long time to forage up in the mines. Once you have your fruit trees planted, you'll get more than enough fruit to store up until the next season.

Most mushrooms can be foraged, from the Mines and Pelican Town, and most fruits grow on fruit trees, which only grow fruits in one season, and they take a season to grow. The bats are the best choice.

I got both mushroom and bat cave multiple times, and I have to say bat cave is a big disappointment due to randomness. I just wanted 3 apples and one pomegranate to complete bundle from bat cave. But since all fruits are random, I couldnt get that 3 apples till end of year. At that point, I just planted apple tree in green house and finished the bundle. Most fruits from cave are foragable ones, so they werent all that unique, and bats just dont generate enough fruits to be profittable either. And once you get a greenhouse, cave becomes obsolete.

The biggest benefit from mushroom cave for me is that it is a good source of energy and $ early on. I try to set up large farming area (640 plots with 80 sprinkler) during the first summer, and i always need energy source for mining/foraging and extra cash. Once I got a good stream of mushrooms, I dont have to worry about energy crisis, or sell them when i need extra cash to buy seeds.

If you want to play relax, greenhouse is not possible in near future, and dont want to wait till the fruit tree grows, I can see a benefit of choosing cave and test a luck. But, if you are looking for a consistant benefit, mushroom is a way to go.

While bats come in some use for trying to complete the Community Center fast, they don't frovide the one thing you'll always lack - the red cabbage. And even then, they aren't predictable. Most of the time you'll get foraged drops, or nothing at all.

And they won't drop the Pumpkin that is vital twice over for the Greenhouse bundle, but is something you'll only ever grow mid-way through Fall.

So while it saves you planting those expensive fruit trees for the Community Center, you can't make much wine from it, the way you will from actually having the trees themselves. The mushrooms dropped are useful for other aspects of the Community Center and those Purple Mushrooms are super-useful for making friends with the Wizard without busting your balls in the mines, especially since normally they only pop up in Fall.

Face it, whether it's money or the Community, the Mushroom Cave is still more bang for your buck.

Thanks! I tried out the bats a bit ago because I just really liked the idea, and was immediately disappointed by how it was only glowing red eyes and occasional bat silhouettes. I exited the game and redid the day with mushrooms and am much more happy. :)

Mushrooms. Because I love mushrooms (IRL).

Well with the bat cave, when fruit appears the fruit starts accumulating on the ground over time. With the mushrooms you need to collect them every day or you miss out on them on the days you forget. Also fruit is a great gift to give people. If you have the profession that makes foragables irridium quality, the bat cave fruit is irridium quality but the mushrooms will always be common quality. Also if you pick the bat cave, you can say "To the bat cave!". It's just not the same if you say "To the mushroom cave!".

Now if the mushrooms made you grow in size, and the boxes the mushrooms grow on were floating in the air, then I'd say pick the mushroom cave. Sadly that's not the case.
