FPS drop
So I decided to play after not playing for a year, as the multiplayer patch is coming soon and reminded that this game exist.

The problem I'm having with a fresh installation with new save and no mods, is that I'm playing at 60FPS (FPS locked) then it fall down to 30FPS randomly and I see the horrible stutter.

I don't have v-sync, and I tried to reinstall XNA, but that did nothing. I tried disable the FPS lock but it still falldown to 30FPS. Anyone know how to fix it?

OS: Windows 10 64-bit
Processor: i5-3570K
Memory: 16GB RAM
Video Card: NVIDIA ASUS GeForce GTX 670

I had the same Issue, here's how to fix it.

Launch Steam

Right click "Stardew Valley" and "Click Properties"

Click "_Common Redist"

Click "XNA"

Click "4.0"

Click "xnafx40_redist.msi

Proceed with the XNA installation Then click "Finish"

Then Launch Stardew Valley and you should get a solid smooth 60 fps.

Hope this helps, I understand the frusteration in having low fps in Stardew Valley.
Hurts the EYES!

And I quote my self, "I tried to reinstall XNA, but that did nothing."

Do you have Windows 10, by chance? Because Windows 10 just updated for me and now I'm getting FPS drops for the first time. The last time Windows 10 updated, it told me I didn't have a graphics card installed on my PC.

Man, I hate Windows 10.

I had this problem just a bit ago. I noticed that if I went to control panel, Stardew wasn't even listed as an installed program for some reason, but I could still run it just at low fps. When I reinstalled, my game was back to normal.

Oh hello, I too use Windows 10 and I hate this OS so much. I once had to do a hard restart for my PC because of it... :(

I can confirm that this is a Win10 problem and not a Stardew Vally problem. Recorded my FPS for other games and saw the drop, tho it is hard to see it, but it does happen.

Go into the "Gaming" section of your Win10 Settings, and disable everything in there: Game Bar, Game DVR, Game Mode etc etc. Only enable them if you need them for specific games / streaming etc etc. It helped against random mini-freezes/stutters on several other games for me.

I have same issue - out of nowere, game randomly become to lag or freeze each few secs. And, if second - only restart of game fixes it. But Im on linux

Doesn't work :(

This isn't a Windows issue, something with Steam's overlay is causing massive issues in the game, it's on the developer to fix it. I heard he is very responsive to the community so it may be worth somebody contacting him about it, it shouldn't be hard for him to fix.

This was very close to being a perfect 10 game for me, but these drops are so much worse than they would be in other games because of the responsiveness of the gameplay and the art style, it's genuinely nauseating to play when it has it's little 45fps lock episodes, makes me feel dizzy..

Weird, for me whenever the FPS goes herpa derp I just open and close the overlay and it usually unlocks back up to 60, if it doesn't, I just open and close the overlay until it does, sometimes takes 3 or 4 times but always works.

Could the overlay be an actual fix then? Lol
