[spoilers] Stardeath Valley
Did you ever find, that stardew valley's lore is quite spooky, in its core?

You was your usual big city person. Went on daily work, did stuff. But someday you became bored, which made you remember, that your granddad on his deathbed told you about some country, you can always move to. So - you decided to check it and moved on. Once you reach stardew valley, everything looks happy, for the very begining. But then, this lil town reveal its true nature:
1. Most of citizens, who looks quite nice for 1st time, belong to weird sect of Yoba, that exist there for years. Weekly they come to altar to do some weird rituals. But where is darkness? Well, symbol of their God is Anglo-Saxon rune, that could be read as "Grave". Grave. Death. Sect, that pray to God of death and weekly come to do some rituals. Do you still want to become closer with them?
2. Once you will clear your house a bit, you will find a letter on your granddad's shrine, saying, that he will return at the end of third year. YOUR GRANDPA SAYS, THAT HE WILL RISE FROM THE DEAD. Is it what this sect is about? Or will he....? Nah, its impossible, you are sane person, overall.
3. Amount of spooky things made you think, that its better to call for police and escape? NO. YOU CANT ESCAPE THIS PLACE. Trains pass stardew valley, but you cant jump on. The only transport in town is bus and its broken. If you will try to pass tunnel within your legs (or on horse) - you will find, that, for some weird reason, you cant do that. And, if you will fix bus.... Did you think, that you can escape? NOPE. Bus drives straight to desert. You cant jump off the way. Once you reach desert, road continues, but some weird force prevents you from going forward.
4. Slowly, atmosphere will turn you mad. Sect of death, girl, who eat rocks, some weird fruits, that affect your mind and make you see invisible creatures, nobody else notice. Time passes, but people in valley are unaffected by its power, and you so. Nobody grow up, nobody become older. Once madness overfill your mind, you tries to end your sufferings by uself. BUT NOPE. YOU CANT DIE IN STARDEW VALLEY - EACH ATTEMPT WILL BRING YOU BACK TO YOUR GRANDPA'S HOUSE. YOU CANT ESCAPE. YOU CANT DIE. NOW YOU ARE BOUND TO THIS PLACE TOO. WELCOME TO STARDEW VALLEY

Correction: The player sees Juminos without eating star fruit or drinking the forest potion.
The forest potion allows you to read their writing. You see them twice before drinking it; once even with the wizard, who apparently sees them too.
Furthermore, they seem to vanish when Lewis looks towards them in the beginning; I'm not sure that they're invisible to others so much as they're just good at hiding from prying eyes.

Furthermore, no mention of the soulless corperation that apparently has enough power to amend laws in their favor so they can perform otherwise illegal mining operations?

I didnt hear about that one, actually. Just found fact, that you cant escape, creepy, and built my theory around it.

But I though about something similar. Depending of amount of supernatural stuff, there may be 2 things:
1. You are not dead, but something happend with your mind (you are in coma or work made you burn out and go mad). And whole stardew valley is your dream, where everyting is sort of projection of your past life. For example - as person above said, Joja is firm, you used to work for.
2. You somehow was trapped into sort of another realm. Other citizens are people, who experienced same, but their memories were changed. Your granddad knew the truth and shared it with some people. But he was the only one, who managed to escape. So - he wanted you to save others. But, when you came, they already lost hope and sanity and turned from circle of acknowledged to cult of Yoba. Citizens, who visit you on holydays, are just projections - thats why they have no personalities. And most of people there experience some sort of hallucinations/possesions. You see junimos. Lewis think, that he can drive away (which he simply cant. Basically just cuz daily you see him in town, and he will have no time to sleep, if he will drive your swags in the night). Etc etc

I have no idea, what s creepy about marriage, since I didnt marry in this game yet. Fact, that you can erase mind of your partner and turn your childs into crows? See post above, it should match it

You don't need stardrops (not starfruit :P) to see ghosts or junimos. Stardrops just make you stronger. Quite a few villagers explore the mines - I know Sebastian, Abigail and Linus do, at least. Sebastian even mentions being attacked and hurt by rock crabs. I'm not sure if anybody ever explicity says they've been to the bottom, but Linus implies he's explored quite a bit.

The sign of Yoba represents "earth", too. This can be taken that they worship the earth.
The stardrop doesn't affect you in any way, instead of making you stronger. It's just that no one pays attention. In the CC cutscene, Lewis was facing the other way, so the junimos moved with being seen only by you. Not dying isn't so bad, isn't it? And your grandpa is a good person. It's not like he's going to grab the nearest weapon and beat you with it. You didn't become "bored", you just felt that you weren't happy there. Kent wouldn't have come back to the valley if it was all spooky. He was on war, so he'd know better to come back if worse things were there. Once you consider them, not so spooky.

To be fair, it's a fantasy game. Sorry, I don't mean to break your bubble but this isn't your average Harvest Moon where everything mimics real life. Anything really is possible. Also at least one or two of those points are nothing but gameplay gimmicks. I ain't spooked by fantasy games. :D

This is like the Animal Crossing theory but better.

I did leave Stardew Valley though? We all got on the bus and went to the city to see Sam and his band perform.
