Fishing Spring 1 - A Pictoral Guide
I prefer fishing when just starting a new farm. It may be "boring", but you can net 300,000 during the first spring. I don't think spring crops can even come close to that.

Fish pay extraordinarily well, especially if you know where the golden fishing spots are. Gold fish every pull!

Best of all, if you do it properly, you can unlock the greenhouse before Winter 1 as well as line up tons of Starfruit for Summer 1. Multi-millionaire by end of first year.

May I ask, what hardware are you using?

I know for a fact that if using a mouse fishing can be difficult or impossible until you have an iradium rod and trap bobber. I have changed my mouse three times and still find fishing with the iradium rod very tedious and hit and miss. All I caught with fishing every other day for a season was junk, and not enough of that to get me to level 1 :(

So, fishing may be wonderful for some, but, dire for others. IMHO, fishing is the one dynamic of this game which needs a major re-think.

(BTW - Crops can unlock the greenhouse in Fall of year 1, no problem. Strawberries, I love them!)

I prefer a controller. But I've fished with kb/mouse, no problem.

The trick is to tap the button rather than holding it down (whether you use controller or KB/Mouse). Tapping gives you much more control.

lot of people comment that its impossible to fish with mouse tho i never understood why...
BTW you can also wish with C button on keyboard.... or was it the X one? sorry didnt played the game for year so dont remeber anymore

I don't get how fishing with a mouse/controller would be any different? I've only ever played this game with a mouse and have never had any issue with fishing. Like, fish get away sometimes, but I still catch way more than I lose? Why do people say pushing a button on a controller is easier than clicking a mouse?

It seems to be something to do with the responsiveness of the mouse. As I already said, three different mice, three different results. None as good as you seem to have, but, different.

Lucky, lucky you to have the right mouse for this game straight off. I will not be buying a fourth mouse on the off chance of a better result.

Is fishing really that hard? I mean its hard when first try it but it will get a lot of easier as we try it & as fishing skill increase. Only repeatedly press LMB to keep that fish on the middle bar.
And from the first time playing SDV I've only using one mouse till now, cheap one Logitech G100s & fishing like a master with it.

If your mouse is really causing you problems, bind Use Tool to a keyboard key in the settings tab of the pause screen (I have Use Tool bound to the J key as well as to LMB and Interact(?) bound to the K key as well as to RMB).

There may be certain edge cases, though (fall festival fishing minigame or ice fishing competition?) where the keyboard bindings won't work and you are forced to use your mouse buttons if you don't have a controller.

:) Love the keyboard idea. If I had two working hands it might just do the trick! But, how are new players of this game to know that they may need to do this?

Mouse is my only option and, I assure you, I have tried everything, including buying two new mice. The fishing skill can sometimes be problematical at the start of this game, especially for new players.

Actually if you fish up trash I think you get a small amount of fishing xp. Just getting high enough in fishing to get crab pots should be doable by fishing in the farm pond and catching trash. Then let the crab pots level you. You'll have to either buy bait or farm insect meat. Bait costs 5 each I think. The 3 fish pots collect at your farm sell for either 75, 65, or 20. So buying bait will be covered by the fish even with some pots catching trash.

Fishing sure is hard when you start with it and its not only because fish is harder to cast at low skill level. It's more even to getting used to the tabbing.

First time I tried it it felt like impossible but you get better at it with practice, just..... it takes time.
But even now at lvl 10, when I have not been fishing for awhile, I need to 'get it right' again when I get my fishingrod out. First fishes that are harder to catch will get away every time untill I got the tabbing in my fingers again.
A player new to fishing also needs to accept that not every fish is suppose to be catcheble for low skill but you can get them on your hook so... they get away.

Where and when you start fishing got alot to do with it aswell
Spring fish is generally easyer than summer fish and summer fish is easyer than fall .......
Easyest catch in spring is town river but not when its raining, Those days its much harder fish there.
Ocean is rather easy aswell, just sadly the spring fish from sea is not very profiteble.
Profitwise the mountainlake is best in spring but I wound't go there below fishing skill 2

Best advice I can give to people who have problem with fishing is to do it daily, even if its only for a few casts

To OP, nicely done mate.
The only thing I wound't do is to go for the spring onions.
It takes like two hours at least to run down there and back up,
In that time you can catch alot of fish extra and use the gold from that extra fish to buy some salads from the pub.
Much more profiteble for your time spend imo.

Another thing is that as you say in your guide, mountainlake fish is the best to go for (when not raiding) and the one making it that good is largemouth bass.
However, that one stops spawning at 7 pm so for the last hours profit dwingles down alot.
Personally I prefer to fish untill 6 - 7 pm and spend the last hours in the mines to get the much needed ore.

I've gone through 3 different types of mouse while playing this game, and the fishing was the same for all 3... I've also played on a friend's computer, and watched him play, and he had no problem with fishing either. I think it's either a personal problem, or you need to change your mouse's click sensitivity in your computer somewhere.

Thank you!

Yes, if I did it again, I would make lots of adjustments. I mention the food issue, and how I overgathered.

Mines are definitely where to be, especially if you can reach 40. 40 is where the Iron is at, and you need tons of Iron for everything in Summer. But... I also have lots of money, so it's pretty easy to simply buy Iron, too. The coal gets expensive though.

Lastly, I would NOT take the lv 10 Angler perk, and go for Pirate/Treasure Chest spawns instead. The extra money is nice, but not needed. Plus after you fish this much, you won't fish for profit much anymore. Completing the museum is difficult though, and getting extra treasure chests can get you there much quicker. I looked for a Dino egg for nearly an entire game year before I finally found one...
