Fiber Fishing Rod - Is it worth it's 1.8k price tag?
I am currently a noob in Stardew Valley (I just started my first Summer in Year 1), but I enjoy fishing quite a bit. Is it worth it to get the fiber fishing rod this early on? Or should I do other things like build a coop first?

The green bar is larger. That will help you catch more fish.

All lvls are slow, just play as you would and you'll eventually get them. It doesn't worth to grind for it.

The fiberglass rod let's you use bait, which makes more fish bite.

I bought that rod. It did not help with my fishing. :( So I went back to crab potting. So, for me it was a total waste, but, then I find fishing hard and boring. Will try again with the iridium rod - perhaps - eventually....., but, just because I will need the fish for the fishing bundles and they don't get caught by pots.

Iridium rod costs more but it takes bait and tackle making it better.

if you have money I'd buy some crab pots, complete the crab pots bundle for 3 more crab pots and just use crab pots on top of your fishing rod till you get fishing 6 and get the iridium rod.

Hmmm I like the idea of crab pots, but I actually want to craft my own crab pot instead of buying it. The only trouble is that I'm not sure how to get iron bars at this point. I imagine it's through mining iron ore in the mines by the adventurer's guild, but I haven't progressed very far in the mineshaft yet.

I'm currently level 4 fishing so I'll probably just wait for the iridium rod at this point :).

You get 3 crab pots as reward for completing the crab pot bundle. This is very easy to do as all the shells needed are found on the beach. The crab is found in the mines. It looks like a rock until it attacks you, you break the shell with the pickax and then kill the crab with your sword. Unfortunately actually getting a crab is random. (Not sure the odds, but they are fairly good.) I also purchased another seven pots immediately on reaching level 3 - they seem expensive, but for me, worth the investment as they hastened my reaching level 5 where I chose trapper which makes crafting pots a great deal cheaper.

Well I'm already level 4 fishing my friend. Would buying a bunch of pots be necessary? Also regarding the mines, are you referring to the mines by your character's house? Or the one's in the Adventurer's Guild?

The rods don't increase fishing skill, nor increase the bar. By themselves, they don't increase bite rate, or increase the likelihood of catching a fish.

However, the Fiberglass Rod will allow you to use bait (5g each at the fish shop), which increases the chances a fish will bite. Very handy to conserve on time.

The Iridium Rod will allow you to use tackle (very expensive) as well as bait. Tackle gets used up in 10-20 casts or so, but will help if you're going for Legendary Fish. Otherwise, I'd save the money and skip the tackle.

For a good fishing guild starting out Spring 1 - you'll earn 100k+ money in the first season, depending on your luck and how you fish.
