Have you check by the river in the evenings? Sometimes he goes out there for a smoke. He's also been known to raid his parent's kitchen in the afternoons.

Generally you will find him outside late at night, but it usually won't give you enough time to make it back to the house before 12:00 A.M. so prepare for the energy reduction unless you are like me and made a bunch of blackberry cobblers at the start of Year 2 Fall so I will always be able to eat one at the start of the day if I know I will need full energy.

It's happened to me yesterday. The schedule is not working as usual like the other characters. Maybe it's a glitch, bug or something like that.

I noticed that when it's raining, many NPCs tend to have a habit have not ever leaving their room for that day. And if you have some urge businesses to do with them specifically on that day and that you are not entitled enough to enter their room just yet, welp, you're out of luck it would seem. Not sure if bug or intended though, but Haley always stuck herself in bed for the day whenever it's raining while complaining about it so I guess it's intended at least to some extent.

I've stood outside his room for in-game hours just to give him gifts. Life is a lot easier when you have reached two hearts with everyone...
