Report a translation problem
Also any criticism isn't met with massive dogpiling, just the ones that are hearsay or simply based on a false narrative.
I can assure you we barely changed S;G's script and the few times we *did* it was to make it *more* direct lol.
The original translation is already somewhat heavily localized (to a fair extent, which is a good thing if you haven't gone full twitter), so if you think it is so, it's not on us.
And again, in the case of NOAH we literally fixed a dozen bugs in true end, uncensored the game, edited 200 CGs, and didn't abandon translating slang like the official admitted to do in a tip where it breaks fourth wall.
No such things in perfect original. Rather it's you who applied it to your "patch" to fix "bigoted masculine" text for "modern progressive standards".
And new fonts are awful.
Another funny thing is how I can't even find any YouTube walkthroughs (to compare) with coz "patches" for any other game than C;H Noah, Cause that game is the only one which was actually screwed up in English and so people had to resort to alternative fixes.
Show more that you're parroting r/visualnovels without knowing anything of the conditions of the series' translations or ports.
Yeah sure we're so woke for naming one singular case Manchild when in our translation @channel uses the r-word.
New fonts are awful yeah sure enjoy middle ellipses, cut characters, unreadable phone in S;G because words break in the middle. Also for NOAH it's literally the free-with kerning version of the original X360 font so lol.
In the case of STEINS;GATE even its translators say that some translation choices don't hold the test of time because of later entries reveals, as well as it being overedited by JAST, which removed descriptions and went overly liberal on some choices (the System for example is a pure JAST invention). And also again we barely touched S;G's script for anything that's not making it consistent with A;C and S;G0.
You have to be insane to say we censored either Takumi or Okabe. For the former some people got on our ass because we made him actually abrasive like he was supposed to be, even, and for the latter, again, we barely touched the script.
Anyway as it has been the case for a year and a half, when the wrong people discovered changes that had already been there for a year in our CHAOS;CHILD patch prior, no examples provided, goalpost moved, etc, etc
Whoa nelly, hold your horses here: I wasn't accusing anyone of anything, I was merely inquiring. I'm noticing a lot of words that haven't made it through (Daru calls people "n00b" a lot, and most of them have been left out, just for one example). I simply couldn't recall if things like that were the same 2 years ago or not. The whole thing felt different this time, but it could just because memories fade.
C;HN is another matter. I both agree with some criticisms, and agree with some of your guys' responses to SOME of said criticism. However, overall, the patch by far improved it, because that recent official localization was hot garbage (to say nothing of the bug fixes, and restored cut content).
As for dogpiling, we'll have to agree to disagree. I had some complaints about choices you guys had been making for the A;C patch while it was being developed, and voiced those criticisms in, what I felt, was a fair and reasonable way (I wasn't like "how dare you c***smokers do it like this!" just to illustrate). Your supporters - not the team, the supporters - then basically went very very hard at me for my criticisms, so I simply left the discord. So yes, some of your supporters can be a bit excessive, as well as occasionally make your channel an unwelcoming place.
Overall, I support the work your team does, but we also need to all be very mindful of where we get our subs from these days, and how these subs are done. So let's just all be cool about this, because ultimately, we all love these works.
Also @ValentB - yes, the S;G official translation, of all the SciAdv series, is the ONE that you could probably leave alone, and not lose much. It was solid. Whomever works for Mages doing that work the past few years though does not deserve their job(s). In spite of whatever faults the CoO may have at times, they still do a better job than the official FOR RECENT TITLES, at least in my opinion.
I can't find the exemple you provided (n00b, noob) in the entire S;G script so I'm a little bit confused.
For A;C we were also very VERY sparse on what we changed and if it's about Gai Organization or 5/13, I think the choice is very quickly explained. Yeah the community, not so much OUR community, than the SciADV community in general, being full of young adults, can be a bit uuuuuuuh, but I disagree with us having supporters. Don't worry that despite us release three times more patches and announcing more translations they've only gotten more critical overall lol.
We're always available to explain our translation choices if the question is asked in good faith, but the rest of the thread is very much not that, hence why I responded the way I did.
For the last point, I'll just say even if S;G is mostly fine, because it has been translated without being reiterated over, it still had some typos and even mistranslated sentences, such as saying Kurisu's lab invented Visual Rebuilding, instead of it being a lab in her school, which directly contradicts S;G0. Again, the translators will admit to those mistakes (sometimes they're not even theirs). For the better TLs that is the kind of changes we do, nothing more, nothing less.
If you want the original experience there's only one thing you can do: Learn Japanese. And I'm not saying that to be sarcastic lol
Learning the language is definitely on my short-list. A little difficult of a thing to do now, learning a language is easier while young, but I still want to try. Just need to figure out the how at this point.
