Worth playing after watching the anime?
So, I had no idea this was a game and watched the anime... loved it by the way. Is there a point for me to get this game? Or is the story covered in the game identical to the one in the anime?

Thanks.

The anime is abridged adaptation of this novel. The story is the same, and you have already seen the true ending. But the visual novel has several endings and a lot more content. Just comparison:
Visual novel: ~50 hours of gameplay
Anime adaptation: ~8 hours

I watched the anime first but the vn does add depth and explanation on a few things. Still very good fun though

Watched the anime first, still loved the VN. It expands on so much of the content in the anime that it's worth playing if you have any interest in more detailed Steins;gate information.

I like the VN more to be honest, you have WAYYYY more insight on what's going on in Okabe's mind, and the lecture Kurisu gave was amazing in the VN. I was soo intrigued by it, it took me 15 minutes to get through the lecture alone I kept stopping and reading it ><

Oh jeez, yeah. This and the explanation on world lines and other things is incredibly well done in the VN.
EDIT: The majority of things not related to in-depth time travel have a basis in legitimate science, even if it's mostly theoretical.

Personally, I love the Visual Novel WAY more than the anime (which was still pretty awesome). As a few other people said, it goes into way more detail and provides more insight in the character's motives and it really expands on a lot of the story. The "alternate ending routes" are all pretty good as well and definitely worth trying out. Considering how long the game is, it is definitely worth getting.

I saw the anime first and then i read the Visual Novel, it is worth 100%, the start is very slow but it kicks up after a while(like in the anime, but worse) the alternate endings and overlooked content are going to make you angry towards the anime for skipping them :Mayuri:

I played the VN first and then I watched the anime.

And well what can I say?...Oh boi...

Anime its really....REALLY mediocre adaptation.

Pros:

- More facial expressions for Suzuha and Fairys, a new side of their personalities interesting to watch.
- Very cool male voice added for Jhon Titor.
- SPOILER: The scene of Suzuha and Daru's reunion its well executed. VN its far better in this scene as well, but tbh the anime also catch the moment pretty well.

Cons:

- Story have a uncomfortable fast pace.
- It lacks totally from Obake Rintaro inner dialogue.
- Plot development feels very empty, full of holes, prety much rushed and forced.
- The explanation for time traveling its way too vague.
- Anime lacks glossary of terms, something that the VN has, enriching more the whole experience.
- Some secondary characters that take big part in very important scenes are cut from the anime and barely mentioned (4℃)
- Lack of different timelines (alternative ending routes)
- They added useless characters that never took part in the VN (the restaurant lady that keeps complaining about not using cellphones in her restaurant)

- Last and actually the one that disappointed me the most: They cut a VERY IMPORTANT scene in the anime that I'm pretty sure took off guard every single reader of the VN. And It's....

SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER

The fact that cute loli Nae It's in reality a rounder who time leaped from 2025 in order to satisfy more her revenge feelings due to the trauma of her dad's dead. It's revealed as well shes the one who killed Okabe in 2025 (in the anime they mentioned that Makise and Rintaro were killed but they never explained why and how this happened).

Shorter: I don't recommend the anime AT ALL, and specially I wont recommend it above the VN.
