in order to understand true end to its fullest you'll have to play steins;gate 0 thoooo! you only see the perspective from the okabe who has everything handed to him, it's so much more fulfilling when you see it from the original okabe's perspective as well.
well might try to play Steins gate 0 but the feels might be too much for me lol. But i guess Steins gate zero will come to steam one day i guess

movie? there's an episode where it shows an alternate timeline for episode 23, which sets the stage for 0.

There is a movie that is set a year after the ova. 0 is set for a different worldline, while the ova and movie are both set in the steins gate worldline. I haven't gotten around to watching the alternate episode or the vn for 0, but from what I understand it is essentially a side story which shows what led to steins gate worldline being achieved.

As for the movie, it's considered non-canon, as it breaks a lot of the rules established by the VN and anime. It's still worth watching, though, as is the OVA episode(s).

As for 0, it's set from the perspective of the Okabe that sent the D-mail to our Okabe after he killed Kurisu. Therefore, it follows the guilt and self-loathing he had which possessed him to build that time machine in the first place.

Does it though? I found it to be very true to the VN and anime. Still a good watch :)

From memory, there are a couple of things.
First, the fact that Okabe travels to another worldline wherin no one else seems to exists. There are a couple of problems with this, one being that there's no explanation on how this sort of worldline can exist (all others are variations in history, this just removes people but leaves infrastructure), and the fact that the VN and anime established that only one worldline is active at any one time. If multiple worldlines are active, that renders basically the entire anime/VN pointless.
Second, although more debatable, the fact that a time machine exists in what is was supposed to be the Steins;Gate worldine, where time travel doesn't occur. This implies that this was not, in fact, the Steins;Gate worldline to begin with. It's a little more debatable, however.
Third, the 'anchor' that Kurisu gives Okabe in the worldine. Because the worldine they are in isn't the original worldine that Okabe came from, the Okabe that Kurisu spoke to in the past is one which is eventually overwritten by Beta Okabe when changes the worldline from the Beta where he kills Kurisu. This is because the Steins;Gate worldline is neither the Beta or Alpha attarctor field, but something else altogether, and Kurisu time travelling isn't enough to change the worldline from Steins;Gate to either Beta or Alpha, at most another attreactor field altogether, which would mean that either the Okabe we know wouldn't exist, or he would shift with it, making the anchor pointless.

Sorry, went on for a bit. I missed a few details, but you sort of get the point. Still a great film, if you don't look into it too much.

the movie isn't canon so don't try to make sense out of it because it doesn't but it's pure OkabexKurisu fanservice so you might want to watch it
well Okabe X Kurisu is enough to make ppl spend money on that movie and ppl will like it more after playing Steins gate 0 for all the sacifice beta line Okabe had made
