Anime is based on this VN, but it lacks a lot of details which are represented in VN, it means that playing this game is a better option, Plus it has alternative endings. But consider watching anime after you finish the game, it's also very good.

Cheers, I'll do that.

Keep in mind that there is a True ending in this game, which is quite hard to get, so check out guides section for a walkthrough.

I'll do that after I finish one blind playthrough probably.

Game first. Anime is a very good adaptation but the game just have more details and immersion. If you already know what happened I think you may just lose your patience in the early part just because of how slow it can be.

I honestly would just recommend a walkthrough. If not be sure to at least keep backup save at the start of every chapter (and maybe also the obvious divergent points). Thing is 90% of the game is nearly identical between the True End and the Not-True-End (beside character-specific endings anyway) but the first flag (out of quite a few, and you need to trigger them all) you have to trigger is probably within the first fifth of the game and it may just waste your time going over the whole thing again. That and I'm fairly certain the first choice you need to pick is such that about 9 out of 10 players wouldn't have picked it without a walkthrough and I can't think of any reason why certain choices need to be made to trigger the True End so it's not like you can logically deduce which one you need to pick.

Not that big of a deal since the text may be skipped. But yeah, walkthrough is very helpful.

Ah... what a bummer. A walkthrough then. Thanks for the warning!

I would recommend game because this is where everything about Steins;Gate existed.

Route mainly fall into 2 routes, Kurisu and Mayuri aka True Ending and Non True ending. You can easily tell which route you are on through certain conversation and Email, on Non True Ending; Mayuri talks to you and confess her feeling to you more than Kurisu through out on chapter 4 onward and vice versa. And If you complete one of ending at least once, when you skip text, it will skip all of conversation you've already seen and will stop at the moment you have to make a choice, email or specific conversation that you have never seen before, for example if you have completed Mayuri Ending and desire to play True Ending Route then skip text, it will stop at Kurisu's conversation that never happen in Mayuri's route and an Email choice you have to make to trigger a true ending flag.

I would recommend blind at first because this way you can see everything, instead of just locking yourself into true ending route and missing out a lot of stuffs that can never happen in that route. Chapter 4 is the breakthrough, it's where you will make a choice that put you in separate routes. Other Alternative endings can happen in both routes, you don't have to worry too much.

It's not a waste of time, each chapter last only few minute if you skip them.

i would suggest this order:
1 Blind playthrough first
2 Anime
3 Another blind playthrough, but now with the anime knowledge
4 Walkthrough play to get to all possible endings.

windwalker, dude, anime knowledge does not help at all, it just spoils whole experience. The hard part in acquiring true ending is not about knowing the plot, but about guessing which "phone trigger" message is correct and repeat it 6 times without a single mistake. Anime does not show those messages at all...as well as other half of the VN.

Don't do this.

ether one you chose to do will ruin it for the other as far as surprises and such. Granted, the anime does not have the full details vs this game and the game has a far better and more fullfilling ending once you complete everything. That being said, this game was awsome, one of the best dl fan translated games I have played many years before steam ever sold it.
