Kurisu or Chris?
I'm confused by this. Kurisu is basically chris written in katakana, so perhaps that means Kurisu is just the katakana version of Makise's name. Is it?

牧瀬紅莉栖 (Makise Kurisu)

As you can see, her name is written in Kanji. Means that it is in Japanese and "Kurisu". However, the pronunciation of both Chris and Kurisu is same in Japanese.
That's a relief. It would have been so much less interesting if Okabe was just adding tina to her name.

Thats how names work in general. EAch language has its own version of same name, Most of the westers name are perverted Greek or Romans names with few added or changed letter in it,

So comes true for western names adapted in asian countries as well,
