Artyom does speak. He's spoke in the loading screens for the past 3 games.

You know what he means mate.

basically you are artyom... you are to create your own dialog and story how you would respond. They don't want to speak for you.

Would be cool to have artyom speak, when games have the silent protagonists it isnt as cool as when they do have dialog. Whenever a game does have a speaking protag its a breathe of fresh air but I assume games do this because of budget reasons IE less money on a voice actor for the main character the more money that can be put into the game.

i already told you why they do it, it's not to save money.. they want YOU to be the main character. YOU are artyom and artyom is you.. they don't want to create dialog for you, they want you to create your own story in your head of what you would say.. It is designed that way. This isn't new, a lot of games do it.

Yeah. It's the easier option to have a mute protagonist. Hence why so many developers go with mutes these days....

seesh, so you guys think they can pay all these voice actors to play in the game, but they can't pay the main character? come on use common sense, its designed that way for a reason.. I'm out.

it's a design decision. an artistic decision. gordon freeman didn't speak and neither does artyom because you ARE artyom, you are the one the characters interact with. immersion, fam.

first of all chill out. secondly the main character would have WAY more lines then anyone else. It would be differant if anna stayed with you the whole time and talked to everyone you talk to in your place other then that I have met quite a few characters already that speak to artyom and he doesn't speak back, if artyom DID speak there would probebly be 3 times more dialog from artyom alone. So by not doing so they can have all these other voice actors be paid instead and have a more immersive experience. Next time a NPC talks to artyom with no one else around that exchange would be twice as expensive cause your paying two voice actors to speak to eachother rather then just one speaking.

who cares, it's still a valid design decision. can we stop this stupid discussion please

I mean he was the one getting hostile and all I did was give a reasonable response with examples and facts.

So I read above about the possibility of the devs trying to save money by not having the main character speak. Wait that means this is just all scripted and the whole adventure is like a movie or novel? It's not real?
