Replayable story missions. Like the one near the Beach you drive of to a big city.
Also, are those loading screens were you had to wait around in a room still going to be there, or will they just be really fast and instantaneous?
After collecting them I thought to myself how big of a pain this will be in TY 2 since it has more of an open world style. Some kind of counter for each zone, or area in TY 2 would be great. I don't know how you would do that for the driving bit of the game since it really is massive, so maybe have the map seperate areas into zones.
1) This might be a bit ambitious, but what about some kind of New Game+? If we were allowed to keep any upgrades, boomerangs, money, and permanent colletables (picture frames, the white coin-thingies, etc) but then replay the entire game. NG+ would probably do away with the option to replay missions (save maybe the boss levels) as well. So that one kind of depends on if you prefer to having replayable missions for every single mission.
2) Also, I would also love to see Sly's boomerang upgrades not actually replace the original boomerangs and instead be new ones added to the collection.
3) You mentioned what you did with the doomerang, but the Shadow Bunyip is a bit more awkard to include. At the very least, I think it would be nice to have the choice to use the Shadow Bunyip instead of the Battle Bunyip at any of the various points in the game it is available.
4) Next, I am alright not having a fast-travel system but an "escape rope" that can take us out of a level and right back to the truck would be nice. If you were to go one further, the option to warp straight back to Burramugee would be nice. It gets a bit tedious to drive out, trek into a massive level, trek back out, and drive home. That being said it would be also nice to have the option to save in a level and stay there when the game is rebooted. Can't tell you how many times I'd boot the game up, drive out to a level, and then for some reason another I'd have turn the game off and then have to do it all again.
5) Once the Barriers are unlocked on the overworld w/ Shazza's truck, they should be taken completetly off the road rather than opened so it's less annoying to slow down and carefully drive around them. And again, to go one further, I'd love to have upgrades for the Truck sections itself. Better tires for speed in the mud, a boost, that sort of thing.
6) We have a map screen, but I sometimes forgot as a kid which location was which level without driving all the way out to it and checking. An option in the menus to scroll through all the levels visited (with a screenshot or some kind of clue as to which level it is) and where that level is on the map would be very nice.

Also, how are keyboard users going to be able to select boomerangs? A joystick was always required to select them in the original.
I was thinking about fast travel when I posted about the picture frames, but the more I thought about it the more I felt like it would make the driving aspect of the game pretty irrelivent.
A way to "quit" the level and end up right back to the truck does sound nice, but unlike TY 1, TY 2 doesn't use portals to get to these "worlds" you just drive, exit, and start running. I agree that it felt tedious at times, but if I had to pick I think it should be left alone. The Driving in TY 2 is too large of a part of the game to be tampered with, and I rather enjoyed driving through the outback.
As for your 5th comment, I think it would be awesome to have some kind of boost or upgrades for the truck instead of making the driving aspect of the game obsolete I would be all for potential improvments to make it even more enjoyable.
I'm pretty sure there was a cheat code that would give you a large amount of Opals so unless they disable cheats in the Steam version of TY 2, I don't know if that'd be a good idea since people would just spam that cheat over and over again to stay on top of the leaderboards.
Speaking of leaderboards though, maybe a leaderboard for how fast people can finish the game?
If there could somehow be one too for how fast people can complete missions (or just the boss fights) then that'd be cool too. It'd encourage people to go back and play through everything again and again, at least in my opinion.
Car upgrades: better Boomerangs, faster etc.
Add a new rang, if you equip it. you would see the old Ty-the Tasmanian Tiger 2 textures (just for the nostalgia ;P)
There is civilian cars but it's very rarely you see them. And car upgrades sounds very nice .
