How to view MDL files?
I love Ty. So much, I want to rip some models and take a peek. Sadly, I've tried many different programs that can supposedly import mdl files, but nothing seems to work. Does anyone know what I can use to view these models?

Sorry for the late response, but I think I got what you need.

https://github.com/Pixeln/TYViewer

Nothing standard like blender / 3DS MAX can import mdl files because they are proprietary for the Ty games. Although a lot of developers use the ".mdl" extension when making games or applications because it's the shorthand for "model", so it's a pretty common extension.

If you find any issues with the program, please report them to me.
Thanks!

wow nice work, how long have you been working at this? would be neat to get to modding the game with tools like this.

It's been on and off for about half a year. A lot of time was spent decoding the file-formats (archive, model, etc) before I started "working" on the actual model viewer. I'm mostly a newbie with this sort of stuff, so I learnt a lot as I worked.

I'm actually working on a fully fledged map editor that would give anyone the ability to create custom maps for the Ty games. This will of course take some time, so if you're interested in modding the game right now, Dnawrkshp has published modding tools on their GitHub so people can create plug-ins or swap textures and stuff.

Cheers!
