As a newcomer- Is this game worth a buy?
Almost all of the steam reviews that I'm reading are from people that had this game as a child, so, obviously I'm suspicious of bias. I do enjoy me a good platformer, however reviews from other sources say this game is only okay.

As of right now, with it being on sale, I'm super on the fence about buying it. (I'm not one to just buy everything on a steam sale because I might play it someday) Is there another person that, as a newcomer, bought this game, and can give me their opinion to tip me towards one side or the other?

I 'd never even heard of this game untill a little time last year, but a friend recomended Ty and I ended up enjoying it immensly. Its large levels are a delight to explore, the characters are cute and eccentrically australian, and overall theres just something wonderfully bright and sinceer about Ty, like the developers really cared.

I'd recomend it whole heartedly.

I never played it as a kid, my first experience with it was with this Steam version and the verdict is yes. It's not grandiose and it's not going to blow up your world, but... well, the best word to describe it is "nice". It's a nice game. Nice graphics, nice soundtrack, nice atmosphere, nice gameplay. It's nice. If you want a Gex-style collect-a-thon, you can't go wrong with this one.

I was just like you from the beginning, kind of looking at the game from afar and contemplating about purchasing it, then I just went for it. The game is definitely worth getting, whether if it's on sale or not. I knew very little about the game on beforehand since I didn't have the game as a kid.

Yeah it's a good game. I had it as a kid, but I continued to play it up until adulthood and still play it now. It was my first ps2 game lol. It's mostly minigames, but some of them are fairly difficult. You may want to use an xbox controller to play it because of how derpy the controls are on a pc keyboard or just skip it and get it on the ps2 or a gamecube tbh. You don't have to start with ty 1 to understand what is going on because I got Ty 1 just recently. Ty was a hard game to come by until it was released on PC.

When ty3 comes out and you get them in a cheap bundle maybe but I look at this compared to Crash Bandicoot and what they are doing it just doesn't seem worth it. Crash is going to be released as 3 games in 1 for $40 which isn't bad for 3 games and if each one of these TY games are 15 it would be 60 for all 4.

I'm definitly not new to this series but I'll give you a rundown. It's a collectathon platforming style of gameplay. There's tons of stuff to collect, which is really nice, making replay value a thing. The game has a hub world, being Rainbow Cliffs. However, if you save before you exit in a level, you will restart in the level, which is good. The levels are really nice. There are 15 levels (normal ones) with lots of exploration. My favorite map is Snow Worries because it is SO big and visually its so much fun. The devs really hit this one on the head. The soundtrack is good too. Unfortunately, its not something that will just pop into your head at work or smth (Greenhill takes that). But when you're playing the game, you really get into the feel of things. The story is kind of simple, which is good for a first in a series. This game is great.

Tl:Dr --- You should buy it because it's good overall.
