TY1 Camera and camera controls - question about issues
Hey all,

There've been a few comments in multiple places (reviews, discussion threads, Facebook posts, etc) talking about that the camera in TY1 could do with some fixes/updates.
Can anybody give me some information as to exactly as to what the issues/desired fixes are?
Is it the camera control itself, or the default speeds set in the UI aren't optimal for the majority of people (which maybe few people know are there, or don't know to go to tweak)?

Any information would be welcome.
Cheers
Linds

one annoying thing is that the FOV (or camera distance?) always resets after a cutscene.

I'm not sure if this was intentional or if it's been fixed but in Ship Rex when climbing up the mountain to find Elle the camera locks into place and There's one other level I think but I've forgotten.

I played a little bit just now to see what it could be the camera speed did seem to be very high. moving the camera or Ty would sometimes be disorienting. Turning the speed all the way down for both settings helped a lot though. Maybe that should be default.

Another thing I can think of is some small situations in the game that force the camera to change perspective can make navigating very difficult. Such as in ship rex when you jump on the beach chairs the camera will quickly force itself into a top down view, and when you land it does this weird spin motion.

Other than that the FOV could be the issue. I remember you guys saying something about not being able to change it, but I remember a small FOV being a big issue in other games like Bioshock where players would complain about feeling very nauseous after a short period of time. I personally didn't have this problem with Ty, but I did with Bioshock. the first person perspective could have made this worse because in a first person game the camera will move a lot more, and at many different angles to imitate the eyes of the player. This problem might still exist for some players in Ty who have a lower tolerance.

It's kind of like putting your hands next to the outer sides of your eyes to force your view into a box shape as apprised to a wide rectangle that our eyes naturally have. It's just really uncomfortable to walk around, and navigate this way.

On console back in the day this problem most likely didn't exist due to televisions being much further away from the players eyes than a PC monitor.

I can't replicate that with either joystick or keyboard and mouse at the moment (the spin when you land - the "view from the top" cam override does occur).

My issue is TY's running is halted by frequent bouts of walking, it's like his running wont stick. It's making the movement anything but fluent. Also my mouse cursor gets 'stuck' on the games menu screen.

Using keyboard, or controller?
TY will run when pressing "W" (default binding) unless you hold down the shift key (default binding) to set to sneak.
If with controller - have you checked what the deadzone is on your controller, as it is using the amount of input to control whether TY runs -> jogs -> walks -> sneaks.

Using a controller. I'll look into it right now, perhaps it's faulty. However, it is my mouse cursor that gets 'stuck' on the menu screens and wont let me select every option. I have to switch to keyboard to select. Thanks!

I came across another bug but I'm not sure if it's camera related. It was in outback safari, however, and when I destroyed the destroyable houses I got stuck and couldn't get loose. Had to restart the level and then it was resolved though. Probably some kind of clipping issue. Anyways, great game!

Any chance of a video on the "mouse getting stuck" issue?

I'll take a look at it tonight friend, if I can figure out how to capture the video with the time I got I'll post it in the morning.

Can anyone look into the screen tearing issue I have? For some reason, this game seems to tear when I'm turning the camera or traversing the world.:steamsad:

With an Nvidia laptop, running Optimus (nvidia gpu running through Intel gpu)? A diagonal tear across the screen?
IDIC Jul 5, 2017 @ 6:17pm
I've seen this issue mentioned a bit before. In Ship Rex, when Ty runs up the mountain, the camera seems to get locked into place behind Ty. Back when I played this on PS2, this was actually helpful, because with the PS2 I didn't rely on the moving of the camera to steer Ty like in the PC version, where moving the mouse moves the camera, and then Ty himself. However, on PC version, the locking into place makes it more difficult to control Ty while running up the mountain, as I have to rely on the A and D buttons rather than the more precise mouse control.

I checked the camera controls to see if I could disable this camera locking, just in case this was already a fixed problem, but I didn't notice anything to do so.

I have this tearing issue (on more games, but also on this one). Do you have a potential fix for it? I complained to NVidia, but they still dont seem to have a fix available.
(GTX1060 running optimus with an Intel HD530 on laptop)

It's a known problem with the hybrid graphics stack in Windows 10. We've not been able to find anything about it that makes it in our control to fix :(
