What is the benefit in purchasing settlement upgrades in Origin?

I have clear permission to walk anywhere I go in the Hort, Gouliet and Fort.

The question is puzzling. If you don't see any benefit in enhancing your base of operations, then just don't do it. Save the shards for something else. Role-playing wise, Origin is part of the story-telling. You will return to it frequently. Spare companions will hang out there rather than at Small Camp. A personal merchant as a plus. And yes, some of the upgrades are purely cosmetic and for fun.

Some of the upgrades are, at best, cosmetic. You won't need them. However, one upgrade I DO recommend is a merchant's stand, especially if you use energy weapons and you aren't a Cleric. That stand is a CRUCIAL source of energy weapon ammunition.

At some point during the first main missions to join a faction and acquire better equipment, Falk, Caja, Ray, C.R.O.N.Y. were at the small camp after I had join the outlaw. They moved by automatic to Origin.
About the merchant trader, I'd read old threads back the game was still 'early access' development and some players were arguing bad is in purchasing traders to Origin since you got to wait for 1 day to trade with them again.
When I was exploring at my best and abusing at the first 15 hourish of elexir glitch, I did purchase by +500 of plasma, laser, shotgun, bolt, arrow, spear ammunition but during my first 30 hours all I had was shotgun, and arrow to barely use.

Then I started using guides to find weapons instead of buying which I was doing since the money glitch is not ilegal at all.

Origin is part of the story. Yes, it replaces "Small Camp" as your base of operations, but other than supporting your new allies at Origin Camp, you don't need to invest into upgrades there.

Huh? The game was never an "early access" game. It was released on Oct 17th, 2017 as a finished game with a day zero patch, and it only received a very few patches till Dec 2017 - and some minor fixes in early 2018. During the first week after release, heavy players completed it for the first time already. It had over 22,000 concurrent players per day at that time, which was enough for the "24h peak players" top 10 charts in Oct 2017.

Where have you read that? It makes no sense. The merchant offers trading all the time - and the way these traders restock their limited supplies, you only need to leave the shop and enter it again. Of course, some items are finite. But on Natural Elex, for example, they will restock immediately. In ELEX II, on the contrary, merchants restock more slowly, and it requires waiting some time.

My mistake then but I really thought this game got release back as part of being Early-access but ooh well....not going argue about.

I swear, I'd read somewhere...on these old threads created in 2017 where someone mentioned purchasing the upgrade about adding more traders is a downgrade because their restock would take 1 day in-game but I may have missunderstood. Can't find the commentary neither...pff.

Repeating that creates a loop. The game has NEVER been an "early access" product. Not a single day. Its first release including a day zero patch (typically that is done because of company internal freeze and QA policies) was complete and fully playable. You can still find the patch notes for Oct, Nov and Dec 2017 in the "News" section here at Steam, btw.

That also doesn't make sense. Hiring an extra merchant, who isn't available before, cannot be a downgrade. If you prefer the other merchants - I hang out at Doc's place often because I buy Natural Elex from him and Wine at the Fort's bar and use his workbench, too - perhaps you don't want to hire an extra trader.

WHAT? Why bother dropping this, anyway. This game never fixed Elexir glitch so If I want to redecorate the camp in the center. I am free to do what ever I want.
