A little off-topic, but may I ask what is wrong with Unity engine that you hope the game won't be using it?

I think every middleware engine has games where it really fits well and some where it is just a big struggle to achieve something great.
For ELEX Piranha Bytes is continuing their inhouse engine and pushes it to the next level with current gen features in all areas.

good. risen 1,2,3 all run flawlessly on my computer and it looks good as heck, even compared to super expensive AAA stuff. looking forward to this one

Genome — engine from gothic 3 and all risens.

Genome is enough for a game where players look not for graphics and more interested for story and gameplay like combat ,range combat and stuff that make a game much interesting....look at gothic 1 and 2 who cared about outdated graphics?:P

btw did Gothic 1 & 2 run on Genome, too?

No, Gothic 1 and 2 run on another proprietary tech called ZenGin. After Gothic 2 all the experience was put into developing a new tech with a focus on being able to efficiently develop open world RPGs. During the years Genome got many overhauls and now for ELEX it will get its biggest overhaul since its inception.

wow, now I see the whole extent of the process of making Gothic 3. Not only Piranha Bytes were working on a really, really big scaled rpg after creating the addon for Gothic2 and having a fight with JoWood but at the same time they were making an own engine. A really big scaled task for such a small team.
So in a way, Gothic 3 was an 'alpha' of a PB RPG running on Genome...
Well, this alpha was worth it, considering the later games ;)
(It even had some beautiful moments I don't want to miss)

I'm so glad you still exist and make games after all those troubles in the past, PB. Hoping for an international brakethrough with ELEX for you.

Absolutely nothing wrong with Unity in the right hands...

Agreed. But I'm glad to hear "in-house." Some good engines started as in-house game engines. The RED engine being one of them.

In particular I always loved how your engine in Risen series handles the light sources casting also realistic dynamic shadows. Love it. They create very atmospheric locations and are not fake lights like we see in many overrated AAA games.

Can we expect x64 EXE and DX12 support (Async Compute etc.)?

x64 will be there as the only option, because the game will require at least 6 gb ram and a 64 bit OS. You can see the minimum requirements on the steam store page.

When are you going to make Gothic 1 and 2 HD remakes? Seriously stop this experimentation crap, GOTHIC is the way to go :)
