There will be no respawns because PB make actually good open-world action RPGs, unlike devs that rely on respawns to artificially inflate game time and encourge MMO farming.

If it doesn't have respawning enemies i'll be giving this a pass.

I get some people may like to explore empty worlds but that would be boring as all hell for me.

Just because enemies don't magically come back to life after you kill them doesn't mean the world will be empty; quite the opposite, in fact.

respawn, autoleveling and random loot are cancer of any rpg
so true...

In history of gaming, nearly all RPGs have random encounter rate or respawns. Grinding breaks game balance? Not sure about that. Look at Demon's Souls/Dark Souls series, they have respawns despite how hard they are, and they don't break game balance. It depends how they make games. Personally, I think people who hates respawn and think respawn belongs in mmorpg probably never play most RPGs before. Final Fantasy series, Xeno series, and list goes on.

WTF are you ppl talking about? This is the developer of Gothic and Risen series, if you are looking for gameplay like the games you write about then you are confused. I don't say this game is only for there fans, but it's a game that have it's own weight in the Third-Person RPG industry. Make an informed decision before purchasing it only to complain later.

Nailed it.

Gosh, what is up with the sudden influx of intelligent people on the ELEX forums lately? You guys are awesome, this will hopefully turn into a great community for a hopefully great game!

Personally I'm a big fan of team "No Respawn". It helps with the immersion. I like feeling that my actions make an impact on the world. If I kill a monster and after two minutes another one is standing at the same location, what's the point in killing it in the first place? It also limits your exp. and forces you to think about where to invest your hard earnd learning points. I never felt like the world was empty in any of the PB games and I'm confident that they'll be able to do the same in elex.

That doesn't mean that I don't enjoy games with respawn. It's all a matter of how well balanced it is. As long as your not forced to grind in a single player game and the respawn isn't to obvious I'm ok with it.

or when you select the difficulty say for example

Very Easy: No enemy respawn
Easy: Some Enemy Respawn
Medium: Few Enemy Respawn
hard: lots Enemy Respawn
very hard: unlimited Enemy Respawn
The opposite is true:
The more enemies respawn, the more exp and loot you get and the easier it becomes!

I'm also a fan of a game that repopulates its empty areas after a while there is no immersion in a empty world. There is also no way anyone can max out on killing something over and over and if you played sufficient amount of RPG games you would get that. The EXP and loot you get from any enemy is dependent on its level vs yours. This means that the higher the level of the character the less that particular monster gives till it reaches 0. I don't even know why this kind of thing needs to be explained. The monsters from lower level areas aren't there to give challenge or to provide endless supply of EXP and loot but to keep the flora and fauna alive. Nobody says the respawn needs to happen in a single minute. In most single player games this happens over a longer period like a in game month or a week depending on what and where. I know that in MMORPG games it works in a way that allows BOTS to farm one area and keep leveling but in single player games its not the same. Plus think about it, if there was someone grinding one pig over and over on a BOT getting 1XP for it, it would take forever to get to the max what would be the point when you can just use console commands to max out if you really need to cheat. Low level respawned monsters don't break the game and there's nothing magical about it. Old dens and burrows get taken over by new monsters happens in the real world too with animals. One person cant make the whole species extinct.

I don't know why it's even an issue to talk about respawn rates?!

Everyone who played Gothic/Risen knows how the respawn system will work. For everybody else who don't know anything about the genre should just play the game and judge later.

I read opinions like "the world seems so lifeless without respawns".
But I don't even know to what that argument is referring to? Gothic/Risen had respawns. But if you kill a wolve, the same wolve will not be there 1 minute later. That doesn't work in real life, and it will not work in a pseudo realistic game like Gothic/Risen/Elex.
If you wan't to kill all life in an area you don't have to wonder why everyone is dead. Don't worry, someday there will be new life, but not immediately.

That's a core aspect of an RPG. Everything you do will have consequences on the world.

And please don't compare this to Skyrim. Not everything has to be like Skyrim. Skyrim is not the perfect game and it made many questionable game design decisions regarding a RPG.

Skyrim isnt the only game that maintains a population of creatures even after the area was cleared in fact for every game that is like Gothic there are 2 maybe 3 that are like Skyrim in one way or another. And again the respawn isn't one minute later its timed on a several days/ weeks/ months of in game. No, the wolf that you have killed isn't there any more its a new wolf entirely. The respawn is merely a term. What some people like in a RPG game that it is a living world. Some games maintain this illusion by keeping the population of creatures alive even in areas that have been cleared before by creating a new set of creatures if that area has not been visited for a while. This creates the illusion that the world continues to live on. I have played almost every RPG game I could get my hands on including Gothic and Risen series as well as Dragon age Origins and Divinity to name few that have limited spawning. I must say that these games eventually started to feel after a little while empty. The prospect of maintaining the illusion that I am in a living always changing world wasn't there. This didn't make the games any less fun for their duration however limited it is but I just want to explain why some would ask this question and hoping the others would understand. We aren't looking for a game to beat and move on we are looking for a virtual reality in which we can live make believe lives as bounty hunters, treasure hunters, mercenaries, bandits or anything that in real world is not possible. This thread began as a hope of one player that this awesome looking game would be his new make believe life in a very interesting and new environments but turned in to a poll of some kind what is better respawns or no respawns. I can not say for others but I might give this one a miss there still plenty of other games that will give me what I want but I am very glad someone asked this question and allowed me to know to avoid.
Well, go ahead. If you don't feel this game is the right game for you, don't play it.

What bothers me is the accusations that there are "no enemy respawns". Well yes, in Gothic/Risen there was respawning (excluding Gothic 3, don't now about R2-3)
But respawning needs to be controled in some way, because otherwise you could break the balance of the game. So therefore the enemies only respawned at special events. What's wrong with that?

A cool pseudo realistic idea would be, that enemies can repopulate itself. Then the player can have the choice:
Kill all, so no respawn,
or let some live, so they will get some babys.
But I think for casual players that would be terrifying.
