how to level up?
Hey guys,
I'm having real trouble here. I'm almost 14 hrs into the game, and I'm only level 9. I haven't left Edan yet, and I've done all of the missions in Goliet. Every enemy [besides critters] I encounter absolutely wreks me. My damage is so minimal that it takes 30 minutes to kill even enemies without the skull rating, and my armor is so little that even critters diminish my health by 1/4 if they hit me in melee and their range wreks me. I tried doing the dodge/parry game, but my stamina is so low that I can't do more than 4 hits before my stamina is gone. If I try the parrying, my stamina is used up quickly, my companion is killed and I am not doing any damage. Dodging gives me the same problem as parrying.

I'm using only the most basic armour/weapons because my stats are so low and the weapon stats are so high that I can't actually use and worthwhile weapons. Any advice? my highest stats are dexterity (ranged attacks), intelligence, and cunning. I chose these so that I could do more ranged attacks and convo manipulations, but I think it was the wrong choice. Everytime I go out into the wilderness, bam.

Any advice on how to level up quickly? I love the story thus far and the environment. However if leveling up continues to take this long and I continue to use up health potions and etc at this rate, not to mention dieing, I'll quit. I like having my wins be worthy, but I don't like having them be hard just because of poor leveling.

First off, 95% of the exp in this game comes from quests, not fighting monsters.
Go out and explore, find the other faction cities , do their quests. You can reach every place on the map from level 3 on or so, just be smart about it. You dont have to fight ANYTHING while traveling around. Avoid monsters, go around them, you have a jet pack for a reason.

For a VERY easy game my recommendation would be to go north till you reach the domed city, the teleporter there will also unlock its counterpart in the clerics main city.
Teleport over, and join the clerics. Energy weapons and PSI powers make the game a cakewalk.
Choose the "Amplifier" Psi Gaunlet when asked and just spam the "black hole" attack it has.
That hits large groups of enemies, drags them together, presses them to the ground ( stuns them for 1-2 seconds) and then explodes.
Just spam that attack and drink some mental potions now and then to refill your PSI energy bar.

I was killing Trolls at level 10 like that in 1-2 minutes.

The game world is full of enemies you won't be able to kill until high level. Full full full. There is one on every road, in every corner.

But... just walk around!

That's it! No more quests in Edan left? Go to a new quest hub. You will encounter many unkillable foes on your trip. Walk around them.

If walking doesn't work, you have a jet pack. That is the solution. There are enemies in Edan you won't kill until level 15+ and int he next area there are enemies you won't kill until 20+. Walk around them until you level up.

Take Falk as a companion and you can burn trolls with patience at level 10 like I did yesterday. :D
You shouldn't have any problems in Edan when going w. companions (Duras, Falk)

But yeah as many other said numerous times:
- XP mainly comes from completing Quests
- You do not need to fight monsters
- You can freely travel long distances and explore, go to other main hubs
When to leave for the cities?

Don't ignore the main missions, even if they take you out of Edan. If you stay near the old roads, you will meet story related NPCs, too. The more difficult alternative is to avoid enemies while trying to reach the other cities/camps as I've done it in the linked topic.

Ok, Thx guys.
I guess my preferred instincts for this game were off. I usually like to try to level up in each area until its easy to kill enemies before going to the next region, but I guess that won't work in this game. This advice is great! Like I said, I don't want to abandon this game, I like its world and characters too much.

After I got Duras I started to risk more regarding exploration & fighting.
Get him and the first hours will be easy ;-)

Here's quick way to get him:
You just need to question the two closest people to Goliet in South Edan:
1) Hunter "Geron" - jetpack to quickly traverse down - he's under the Hotel in Goliet.
2) Cultivator "Irdor" - there's another quest "Supplies for the Cultivators" and also "Ragnar" wants you to check up on him at the World Heart which is quite close to the Hunter guy an on the way you can ulock the "River Delta" teleport.

After you spoke to both teleport back to Duras tell him you checked these two - he will say you're making quite a progress and will offer to join you immediately. ;)

initially ranged combat isnt super viable. it works against very weakest enemies but by lvl 5-10 arrows dont penetrate enemy armor at all so you need hundreds of hits to kill. you must do melee until you can upgrade bow. or occasionally grenades or alb spells but ammo costs or scarcity'll kill ya.
