Outlaws are cool and bad ass and joining them takes time. Their base reminds of a classic Gothic "camp" a lot, with how you're treated like dirt, cheated, backstabbed and exploited etc. A prominent weapon of theirs is double-barreled shotgun, upgrade that and you're all set. Also some of the chems are good, like healing one and double damage one. Explosives are kinda meh though.
Clerics are much more powerful than Outlaws, you'll be quite strong even early game and be able to progress faster with that psi amplifier and energy guns. But it's also too easy to become one (possible at like level 3 after doing two small quests) and I can't say I feel attachment to them.
Berserkers are a classic PB faction and have interesting spells. Joining them is also quite of a challenge.
I'd say just pick any faction that appels to you and save other two for next playthroughs. This game does a make job of recognising you and acting accordingly. When I was an Outlaw, some folks were wary of me, but the others were easier to communicate to. When I was a Cleric, that gave me some preferential treatment from some, but the others were hard or impossible to get quests from.
So whether you're without a faction, Berserker, Cleric or Outlaw, it all offers unique dialogues, options and opportunities. So it's not like you'll have no reason to come back to the game after the first playthrough.
Flamethrower is a cleric weapon
Heheh, laughed out loud on that one!
And yeah, heck of a difficult choice to pick factions in this game, coz all 3 playable factions are so interesting, IMHO. (I'm still leaning towards Cleric-faction so far, though).
I joined the outlaw, and I use flamethrower a lot, since it's a very good heavy weapon. The only problem is that I framed Siegfried in cleric's test quest, so seems I got permanent banned from trading with Armor Master in Hort, which makes me hard to resupply ammunition for flame thrower. So, remember that don't f**k with cleric or outlaw if you still want to use their ranged and heavy weapons ( cleric: flamethrower; outlaw: grenade launcher, slugthrower and rocket launcher ). As for berserker, you can forget them, you can buy arrow everywhere you want, and berserker has no heavy weapon at all.
Other than that, if you are also a "Ranged Weapon guy" like me, outlaw is your best choice. Since it's the only way to help you get unlimited amount of outlaw special ammos, as for cleric weapons, you only need energy cell, plasma cell and fuel, energy and plasma cells are available at trader in Origin, and you can buy fuel from Armor Master in Hort, as for bow, you can just use The Phantom String, it gives you ability to unlock seeker shot and scatter shot without joining berserker, it's damage maybe a bit low ( 72 ), but with scatter shot, it's still a powerful weapon.
Was looking at your play time at 18 hours you're about the same as me, I think I have 19. In PB games, I don't like to join factions until much later in the game.
