ELEX

So you "level up" more with money than experience, also combos (An attempt at newbie tips after my own learning experience)
Edit: The game gives no text or numerical information about this, but it is 100% confirmed by monitoring the value with cheat engine, that drinking Elex potions does + your "cold" level, this effects the games ending, I still consider the method pretty vital to get going, it does not raise your cold hugely if you use the potions to get 30-40 in every stat like I did, but heavy abuse for max stats will make you an Alb again ;)

10x Elex potion = 1 gain in cold rating, it's slow.
________________________________________________________________________

I had a real rough start with this but I was determined to get back the feeling I got with Risen 1.

I restarted a few times and one of my attempts I even resorted to just using cheat engine, but that got boring fast.

I made a few posts complaining and one asking for early game items & tips.
I was led to buying the chemistry skill + recipe for elex potions ASAP.

Now money = direct gains in attribute points + learning points and the game is so much easier.

I'm only level 13, but I can equip an energy sword with astounding damage upgrades from the broadsword that needs 43 str / 43 dex, all thanks to spending all my Elexit buying the materials to craft +2 attribute Elex drinks.

So for anyone who was having as rough of a start as me, get animal trophies skill, Chemistry + buy the plans for elex potions all in Goliet as your absolute #1 priority.

Then you can grind mobs, sell the claws + teeth for money and use that money to basically buy attribute points without leveling up, i'm killing Alb soldiers + Skex all with red skull icons quite easily.

(Also combos..they don't simply "give extra damage the longer the combo is" they are 100% absolutely essential to dealing any noticeable damage, the hint at the start of the game really understates how important they are to the core game mechanics.

You can hit an enemy with 3-4 light attacks and literally see no movment on their health bar, but follow that up with a single power attack and you can find you take off 1/4 of their HP or more, wheras a single power attack on it's own, you could also not see the health bar move.

It's rather confusing and was on of my main issues, as enemies single non combo attacks do take off 1/3 or 1/2 of player HP and it fools you into thinking that is what the games mechanics are, so when you do your single hit back and you see literally nothing done it's very demoralizing, but once you can accept that the rules are different for the players damage output it becomes alot easier on your morale as a player :P

The short of it is enemies don't need to do combos wheras combos are the only possible way for the player to get any damage output to get even close to matching enemy single attacks.)

Doesn't using Elex potions causes you to gradually become cold emotional.

Not at all, it's the only way to get an even footing with the enemies.

10-15 hours of being forced to only run away from every enemy you see is already far too long and tedious.

My character is level 13 after exhausing every quest in Edan and doing various follower quests, It was only possible for me to even do all those quests thanks to the potions.

If i never had those potions it's just like my first attempt at the game, I do every possible quest that is not killing while abusing hundreds of quickloads with endless attempts pull of tricky "grab + run" tactics on quest items. and then you are level 10-11 with no more than 20-30 in any one stat with nothing left to do, at that point you are at a complete stalemate with progress and it's already been 10+ hours of tedious play.

No, it's pretty disjointed from the games narrative :P

Much like how the combat trainer for the tech hating berserkers teaches you the jetpack power attack.

So far it seems like only conversation options change your cold rating.

Excellent, I remember reading your other posts.
I think I'm going to start over with a new character, because I made a mistake with my first character and hoarded a lot of skill points and attributes, when I could've been generating a LOT of money for a Long time with the Hunting skills and chemistry, along with Pickpocket.
I think I increased the game difficulty with my decision, which ended up gimping my character

Well, inspired by your post, I started over, and started to spend attribute points and skill points right away, and have the Animal Trophy skill level 1, and will be able to purchase another level soon

Do traders at one point stop selling natural elex? Alrik no longer does in my game.

In either case, you get more than enough even without buying any.

Maybe some do but others restock every visit. They are expensive. The cost in attribute points for each stat point increases at several thresholds. I can't be bothered with the math but it gets quite expensive. So while the supply is virtually endless you are limited by your cash which is not. If this was not in the game as it is nobody could get the points needed to wield anything with the points given each level. Elex potions are a must have item. For skill and attribute points.

There is always the chance it's a total bug and that we are supposed to build our characters purely on what we are given levelling, plus monster drops and found loot. I hope not.

True. Before you know that natural Elex can be bought in an infinite amount, you struggle with the game. After... It becomes very easy.

Somehow it feels like a bug abuse. It can't have been intended this way, money is so easy and fast to make...

Who else sells pure elex? I know Alrik does but he doesn't seem to be restocking.

I am asking because I got about 10k and nothing to spend it on.

Goods trader in Tavar Outlaws Fort has it.
dustin1280 Oct 23, 2017 @ 3:12pm
Doc in Outlaw fort sells it as well...

So far I have resisted the urge to BUY power, but I am prepared in case I ended up wanting to.
Valandryl Oct 23, 2017 @ 3:19pm
Lvl 15 and I bought (yes, not counting those found during exploration) exactly 100 natural Elex. And now I wander with a 64 dmg 1-H Sword. Skex have skulls, I kill them with less than 1 stamina bar without trying to combo.
I wonder how many you can buy by lvl 30...

I spent all my money on elex potions at lvl 18 and it finally made me able to use tier 2 weapons. Maybe I shouldn't have increased every stats to 30? At lvl 18 I was a bit annoyed that every fight took minutes. All in all, with the upgraded weapons I can kill the casual monsters with 2-3 shots.
