I would say Elex has way more polished and interesting world, whereass g3 was just mostly boring, because you can tell devs needed probably at least a year, not just few months, to finish game. Elex doesn't feel like that.
I would say Elex is far, far better than G3, but that doesn't mean it's gonna bot good for you as well. Look some more info vids, watch some lets plays and streams, and see how it feels for ya.
None of them even begins to make sense.
That said - For now I like Elex better, but I do not feel qualified to give a final verdict.
The reason is that I simply only played a relative small part from the game, because it's just released a few day's ago. I will have a (sort of) verdict when I finished at least the main quest. But I rather do a final verdict when I sunk far, far more hours in this game (and maybe joined all three fractions at least one time).
If anything, the decision would be between ELEX and Gothic 2... or maybe Gothic 1. Gothic 3 is entirely a different style of game.
If I remember correctly, they werent even involved in the DLC, since Jowood (it has been Jowood, right?) kicked them out for good.
So ...yes G3 has been buggie as hell , but you cant entirely blame PB for that.
And again: Elex is not Fallout, its not Mass Effect and its no Candy Crush....its the newest PB game. With the typical PB odds, bugs and choices a casual (I wan it to be like Skyrim) gamer either love it or hate it. I think theres no space for something else in between.
JoWood didn't kick out PB. I think that JoWood forced PB to release Gothic 3 early, before it was ready, which resulted in a catastrophic and nearly unplayable release of the game, and as a result PB had a falling out with JoWood, and they parted ways.
But JoWood still had the rights to publish 2 or something more Gothic games, and so they hired another company to make Gothic 3's expansion (which is seemingly not good, though I haven't played it), and then they later had another company make Arcania.
Since then, though, the Gothic license has returned to PB, though they have not yet made another game in the series.
Buy and play Elex it is definetely worth it. Gothic 3 is good too WITH community patches. And Piranha bytes was not responsible for the G3 disaster, perhaps a little. That was jowood, that tricked them out of the contract.
Have fun.
From what I understand, having been on the old JoWood forums throughout the development of G3, it isn't that JoWood tricked them, or kicked them out, but that PB didn't want to work with JoWood anymore, or maybe neither wanted to work with the other, after the Gothic 3 mess.
PB had signed a publishing deal with JoWood entitling JoWood to make and release a certain number of Gothic games, up to a certain year, so even though PB wasn't working with them, JoWood was able to make some additional games using the Gothic IP.
If you have different information, I'm interested to hear it.
