ELEX

Elix or Gothic 3 ?
I've on the fence,
Elix took me by supprise. I thought it was going to be another RPG like Fallout 4. Come to find out it has it's own personality with relying on faction as it's main point....This intregues me since I've never seen a video game like it.

HOWEVER, with reading mixed reviews on Elix I decided to study Gothic 3. Putting aside graphics because I don't care, it almost seems Gothic 3 is the better game. Infact, nothing had really been added to Elix to say yes, it's more up to date.

Both have mixed reviews because their unique to any other, and you have to know how to play them. If your the type that's willing to invest hours into something totally unique, then they could be great....... I'm even on the fence on both !

Please help.

Well, been playing both of them (And finished Gothic 3), G3 was buggy mess (yes, sure, elex, doesn't have best animations, but there were some models in g3 that had animations entirely missing, like some predator birds in the desert...were just static "models" on the road, lol.

I would say Elex has way more polished and interesting world, whereass g3 was just mostly boring, because you can tell devs needed probably at least a year, not just few months, to finish game. Elex doesn't feel like that.

I would say Elex is far, far better than G3, but that doesn't mean it's gonna bot good for you as well. Look some more info vids, watch some lets plays and streams, and see how it feels for ya.

Weak stealth troll attempt.

None of them even begins to make sense.

To be honest Gothic 3 does really need the unofficial patch. Without it, the game is much less enjoyable.

That said - For now I like Elex better, but I do not feel qualified to give a final verdict.

The reason is that I simply only played a relative small part from the game, because it's just released a few day's ago. I will have a (sort of) verdict when I finished at least the main quest. But I rather do a final verdict when I sunk far, far more hours in this game (and maybe joined all three fractions at least one time).

Obvious troll. Gothic 3 is great with Community Patch (a-must-have) and frequently on sale for cheap. ELEX is great too, why people troll about its graphics is beyond reason, only drawback are the few facial templates (they could have been done better too) and that's all. Gothic 3 is also a little easier so if you're on fence, you can try the Gothic Series for cheap and then decide. People going for PB games for the first time with ELEX seem to be highly "confused" hence the mixed reviews.

It wouldn't make sense to buy Gothic 3 instead of ELEX, since Gothic 3, even though it can be fun, is one of PB's weaker games, whereas ELEX is being said to be one of PB's better games.

If anything, the decision would be between ELEX and Gothic 2... or maybe Gothic 1. Gothic 3 is entirely a different style of game.

Since PB has been kicked out during the process of creating G3, i wont count that game to their collection. And I actually never played it, tho .

If I remember correctly, they werent even involved in the DLC, since Jowood (it has been Jowood, right?) kicked them out for good.

So ...yes G3 has been buggie as hell , but you cant entirely blame PB for that.

And again: Elex is not Fallout, its not Mass Effect and its no Candy Crush....its the newest PB game. With the typical PB odds, bugs and choices a casual (I wan it to be like Skyrim) gamer either love it or hate it. I think theres no space for something else in between.

JoWood didn't kick out PB. I think that JoWood forced PB to release Gothic 3 early, before it was ready, which resulted in a catastrophic and nearly unplayable release of the game, and as a result PB had a falling out with JoWood, and they parted ways.

But JoWood still had the rights to publish 2 or something more Gothic games, and so they hired another company to make Gothic 3's expansion (which is seemingly not good, though I haven't played it), and then they later had another company make Arcania.

Since then, though, the Gothic license has returned to PB, though they have not yet made another game in the series.

Elex has next no bugs, the performane is great, it looks stunning. The world is full of little details, the quest are fun. It is the best game piranha bytes released so far. It is the best game 2017. It is the best gothic style action rpg. I hate tricky combat but i love the progression in Elex. It is not that difficult after you get the hang of it. After 10 hours in i start to rule some monsters and but can not take on the big game. Like trolls, night stalker, ripper, earth dragons, Battle Kollossus. It is like Monster hunter with a meaningfull open world to explore. There is even more room to progress. In Gothic 2 when you started to one shot orks you won the game. Here are more tiers to progress. The factions are fun.

Buy and play Elex it is definetely worth it. Gothic 3 is good too WITH community patches. And Piranha bytes was not responsible for the G3 disaster, perhaps a little. That was jowood, that tricked them out of the contract.

Have fun.

From what I understand, having been on the old JoWood forums throughout the development of G3, it isn't that JoWood tricked them, or kicked them out, but that PB didn't want to work with JoWood anymore, or maybe neither wanted to work with the other, after the Gothic 3 mess.

PB had signed a publishing deal with JoWood entitling JoWood to make and release a certain number of Gothic games, up to a certain year, so even though PB wasn't working with them, JoWood was able to make some additional games using the Gothic IP.

If you have different information, I'm interested to hear it.

No, it was sad. Gothic 3 made it into a good game at last.

I'm in LOVE with both, easily my 2 most fav PB games ever (sorry Gothic 2 fanboys)

The only thing i hated about gothic 3 release version were the many crashs, the fast day/night circle and the gatling attack pigs. The desert was a little empty, but that was okay, i wanted to finish the game. The rest was okay.
