Going to have to pick one soon but its not going to be easy. I just have to finish up a bunch of the domed city quests before I make my 'decision' Save so I can avoid the grind again choosing another faction.
Choosing any faction makes you immediately regret that you cant be with the others for remainder of the game. They all sux in the end and it was a case of "Grass is always greener on the other side"
That way, If I regret my decision, or am going for a different playthrough, I can just load from there
And damn I still can't forget how sexy temple guard armor was. I am really hoping I could fine some as an easter egg in this game...
Anyways. In this game I am going with the Zerkers. Mainly because they are similar to the fighting style I utilized in Gothic 1. Two handing and spells oh yea baby!
I picked cleric. Using the Psi blaster thing with the black hole setting was the single biggest game changer for me. I went from dying to everything to winning most times. I die more to my own fire and because of my companions friendly fire than much else.
Ranged combat with Psi and plasma rifles have knockdown which really helps so long as it isnt me getting stun locked to death.
I can only speak from a cleric viewpoint but once you skill up and get better gear you really do kill things very easily.
Lots of us like playing these games because you can scavenge through areas that are way too tough for you and pick up some nice loot early. But so far people doing this and getting whipped and complaining about it have been the majority here.
It is hard at first but it gets far too simple later on. It's really easy to wander into an area that is too tough for you but your companion tells you the area is 'worrisome' or 'should we really be here'. The game does warn you so you can't blame it if you ignore the warnings and lose.
One with the weapons ability - increased damage done by ranged weapons
One man army - Increase damage without companions
( yes I am playing without companions )
Plasma Rifle have explosive shot that stunlock enemies into oblivion
Power Shield: good damage protection
Thing is:
ranged combat is really the game changer when you join the Clerics, it is ultimately day and night difference once you start using range weapons in this game.
I got really put off by the WONKY* melee combat with the stamina draining so much an you are immediately swarmed by multiple enemies.
Most times your companions don't act like companions, they only serve as meatshields for you to whittle down the enemy and kill them.
This game it's dodge to the right and shoot them in the back. I would have prefered enemies who started to counter that basic tactic.
Also would have liked to see more different kinds of attacks, the more you play the more predictable the npc's are.
Or just speed up the game, both the player and the enemies. Think if everything moved a tiny bit faster it would give a better challenge. Now it's way to easy to dodge at the right time.
Just raising damage output and buffing enemies hp doesn't make a game hard, just takes longer to kill something. That said the fights in the beginning where the best.
Think it took me 45 - 60 mins to kill the Colossus 7300. Was on the edge of my seat knowing each hit could instagib me.
But I'm not playing the game because I needed a challenge. I'm loving it for running around doing stuff. It has a really nice ratio between questing/travelling/roleplaying and combat.
Only real dislike I have is the over the top meta-gaming of npc's.
Those are some real basic storytelling mistakes.
that is what the 4th fraction will be "predator" out of all.
After-all you are playing the game and not the another way, so please dont be so serious about joining what fraction. (Just whack and whack till the game end)
clerics-fire mages
outlaws-mercs
The restrictions are there because Berserker was the closest faction the player could get to, I guess.
On the other hand, Clerics requires the least amount of effort to join because getting there is a challenge on its own.
