ELEX

I'm finding the game impossible, what have I missed?
I have ran around all Goliet and the surrounding area accepting any quests i could find, doing whatever I can manage and killing all the mobs that are within the standards of possibility.

I am level 7, slightly stronger but still terribly weak to everything left.

There is no killable wildlife left, I have Duras with me and I have been heavily abusing him to stunlock single forlorns to VERY slowly take their health down, it's literally 100+ hits to kill them and they 2 shot kill me.

So with everything in the area around Goliet killed and all the quests done, I can only assume I have missed a large quest hub.

I could probably abuse Duras some more to actually kill the 2 Albs for the first "Contact" main mission, but within normal game mechanics, they are clearly supposed to be for me to come back to later.

I am using mostly ranged, I stand on cliff sides and jetpack hover above things to kill them, anything that will take over 300 arrows to kill I use the above mentioned stunlock with Duras in melee.

The game is on easy mode, I have 40 Dex as i'm trying to build up stats to use a better bow I stole.

(Anyone who may be getting ready to jump on the big guns and mock me as a "modern skyrim kiddie", you have no need to :P I'm not complaining that "The game is too hard omg" I have clearly missed something.

I'm not a "Gothic Veteran" my first Pirhana Bytes game was Risen 1 and it really resonated with me, Elex is feeling very similar, except I am now at an impasse, I don't think the intended gameplay is my current extreme AI abuse, if I use this method to complete "Contact" to kill those 2 albs, I will simply me making the issue worse for future encounters)

There is more than 1 city with Startquests...

don't bother asking for help on this game. they'll just insult you and call you "casual". this community is toxic.

Explore is really the best suggestion. Enemies do not get stronger the further out from Goilet in any meaningful way, some are strong, some are weak. Just avoid combat with anything that's stronger than you (the skull creatures should be avoided until you get a faction ability eg magic). If you wander around and just avoid all fights that are hard you can cross most of the map to complete other quests that are further away.

That may have some truth to it but I can still get some information that google currently can't give due to how new the game is.

For example.

This is a good start, I can only find Goliet, I have been marking areas that look like they might be NPC hubs and working my way to them, but so far I have only found houses to loot and currently invulnerable mutants who 2 shot even Duras.

Re the quest hubs: Check your map and look for large structures. Chances are they are either ruins or a city. The obvious city hubs are Goilet, Tavar (outlaws), Ignadon (clerics), and the Domed City (all factions). But there are a few other smaller communities around too.

My experience so far is not backing that up :P I those basic wolf / goat dog enemies who can also spit at you, I have found 3 different variants the further north I went, the 3rd one just 2 shot kills me and i need to stunlock it with duras as my own attacks with a bow don't hurt it.

I went east to try and meet the Outlaws, I was attacked by some literal winged demon thing.

I'm geussing I should put Duras back in Goliet so he does not get killed and jetpack around to all the faction towns? Kinda like starting new in an MMO and doing the "starter zones" ?

E.g: If i jetpack past the demon to the east of goliet, I won't meet more? It will go back to raptors / critters further east?

You can usually spot enemies before they spot you in which case just circle around them. If they do spot you, make liberal use of the sprint key to get out of there :P Duras can take a pounding and his AI is decent enough that if you run from the battlefield he'll follow. I've only had him die when I try to take on the skull creatures.

The creatures themselves seem to be RNG with some specifications as to what level they are spawned. Sometimes they're the easy low level ones, sometimes they're higher and harder. Just save before entering combat and you can get a feel for them and if your arse is handed to you, load and avoid it.

To get to Tavar I pretty much spent the whole way running past enemies, attacking any I knew I could defeat (those stone critters and the odd turkey-like birds), jetpacking over mountains, and essentially just sprinting my way there. It didn't have too difficult an entry requirement and there was a teleporter out front so if you get there and aren't able to fulfill it, you can return easily.

To get to Ignadon will probably be difficult on foot. I'm level 14 and still struggle with a lot of the creatures there, not to mention lava flows, but I got there through a wandering cleric who, when I spoke to, he hypnotised me and teleported me there but that relies on finding a wandering person.

To get to the Domed City, you've probably already got the teleporter near the convertor for the quest you get from Goilet (can't remember the name). I teleported there and followed the basic direction of the main road, mostly hugging the mountains to the west. There is a tough combat situation to get into there (though apparently there's a different way into the city that I didn't come across, so don't know how hard that one is) but shouldn't be too bad with a companion.

Also if you're fighting the turkey like birds and your stamina is low, use the A or D key to circle around them and they rarely hit you :D Doesn't work for the dog like creatures and sometimes for raptors but not as reliable, but the birds seem to attack in a straight line so you don't waste precious stamina while waiting for it to refill :D

I just wish I could have named my character how I wanted. He would have been called Sir Robin lol

Do creatures respawn eventually then?
I know they did not with Risen, in between chapters they would, but i used to clear out the whole area each chapter just for XP.

i have no noticed any respawns, but if i rest to make 7 days pass or something do they return so I can grind a few levels?
Arndell Oct 20, 2017 @ 3:04am
One of the first things I did was get the 1/3 trophy hunting skill :P
This is so the extra claws + teeth etc I get from each kill with a bow generally recover the cost of replacing arrows + give me a profit. Killing the turky birds is great money as they give a good amount of stuff each kill and only take 2-4 arrows.
I got to level 10+ without leaving goliet and barely killing any creeps. You must have missed something?
And then there's quests in other places, the jetpack and sprinting helps getting there with all the wildlife.
There's an amulet to give more xp for quests too, I only just got it, a shame :(
Imo killing in the early is a huge waste of time, it takes time and gives little xp.
Arndell Oct 20, 2017 @ 3:23am
Yeah i found that amulet quite early on thankfully, along with a lockpicking amulet right at the start of the game that I have had little chance to use, opened a couple things though.

I understand the general idea now I think, the world is not "properly" leveled to be balanced based on progression, enemies are randomly weak or powerful all over the place and until you can kill everything, you will be randomly running around and overusing the jetpack to escape.

I had a similar experience with Risen 1, just not to this extent.
As soon as I could kill a ghoul in 1v1 combat, I went around the world killing every ghoul I remember running from for what was at the time, massive XP boosts.

Being over level 10 without leaving Goliet seems odd though, i'll do another sweep before looking at the Outlaw desert.

Killing isn't a good way to get XP, the rewards (outside of monetary and practicing combat flow) are negligable. They do respawn, just very slowly. I haven't sat down to work out exactly how long it takes. The ACG review said they respawn once a day, but I don't think that's an ACTUAL day in that if you sleep they return (cause they don't), but maybe it's after 24 hours of you being awake? I'm not sure, but I know creatures around Goilet I've killed quite often. And it's always a different creature (eg at the bottom of that windy path leading to it I've fought a stone critter, two of the turkey-birds, and two or three of those mangy dog things, but all spawned in the same spot).

Are you talking about without leaving the city walls of Goliet? I did not realize there was that much to do to get enough XP to reach level 10 without combat other than the few creeps.
