Is it me or do shields suck?
I just tried the outlaw scrap shield. Very dissapointing:

1. Basic quick attacks are slower than without the shield
2. Heavy attack is a shield bash that does no damage but briefly knocks down the enemy
3. The special attack is... also a shield bash that does no damage and does the same thing as the heavy attack.

Unless there's a way to switch between the weapon and shield special attacks, I see no reason to even bother with it.

No way. Lots of enemies are easier to kill with sword + shield because of OP knockbacks. Lowing down of dps worth it
Parry? taking no damage kinda is worth it for me.

Yeah, but especially early game it feels too cheesy and you have to dump multiple stamina bars on your enemies to finally kill them. Shields are more appropriate mid game, when you are actually able to do damage.

You can also parry with weapons and no shield. At least 1-handed attacks.

Parry is about timing, just like DS.

Shield bash stun lock is a major thing, some monsters are immune. Humanoids - really not so much.

Shields are OP, especially against humans. When the enemies are knockbacked they don't regenerate stamina, so in 1vs1 fights if an enemy is tired he's done for. A combo of 2-3 strikes and then a shield bash as a finisher - wait a bit to regen your stamina, repeat.
Also, with the shields you can block off enemies even when you ran out of stamina. It's a very good and safe choice, especially if you use the regent energy sword from mausoleum, the electric debuff it leaves hurts much more than your attacks anyway.

Shield playstyle is very different but just as useful. Especially from level 10-20 it's so hard to survive fights that have 3+ enemies if you don't have a shield. Shield is much better at blocking incoming damage. But for me it's very boring so I use a 2H and pump up my parry skill.

Yeah the special attack with shields is useless since you can achieve the same thing quicker with a heavy attack. I've found if you have the shield on the quickbar you can put it away once the combo far is full and use your actual weapon's special.
Shield can be useful if you actively use it to block. I think it's pretty decent at mitigating laser fire.

Shield is great 1 v 1, and great vs some ranged weapons.

It works on monsters as well. On 1v1 nothing could stand a chance against my shield.

Yeah I actually stopped using the Shield. Ive more or less gone into plasma based range weaponary now.

without stam every hit gets thru i was useing the nrg shield alot but with low stam it made it my comp has to do the dmg i just block the attacks as soon as my stam was gone i mayaswell have been naked, the transition from no stam to stam regeng is many secs when your out of stam musch faster if you stop just b4 it emptys, but you have to stop blocking or your left screwed and most animals do 2 very quick hard attacks when they havent hit something for awhile.

the enemy AI is locked onto you you cant avoid it 90% of the time no matter where you are that includes 500 feet off the ground thru hills and buildings lol.

shield is ok. 1h + shield > 2h in almost any case.

Shields can be really useful, you can use it to block all damage from ranged attack, haven't tried to block ranged attacks w/o a shield but i'm pretty sure you can't. it's really useful being able to close the distance between a ranger without taking damage.
