Yep, according to that there are a few similarities, but overall it seems like cliche post-apocalyptic sci-fi. Also, according to Google you're not the only one who has referred to ELEX. With four years between ELEX and this series, it could very well be that the game has inspired the creators of the series.
Don't know the series - but one can say similar things about Gothic 3, because that game features cliche fantasy factions that play a role in much older fantasy books, which may have inspired Piranha Bytes.
