Level Suggestion
Has anyone seen a third party source that gives you a minimum level before you try? It is disheartening to run across the map only to realize you are going to have come back in SEVERAL levels when you can handle the fight.

I am not sure of any kind of third party source, but I have found a good formula for me at least.

Basically what I do in my playthroughs, is to do all of the "non-combat" side quests in Edan/Goliet, then (around level 8-10) is when I go to Tavar and doo all of their "non-combat" quests, then finally onto Ignadon and do those "non-combat" quests.

The order in which you visit the major cities isn't important, so to optimize play time, you could visit the faction you want to join LAST so you can join their faction right away. Either way, I don't do ANY exploring at this point.

Once I get through all of those "non-combat" quests and join my faction, I am usually around level 15 or so (or at least VERY close) so I also do my first level 15 faction promotion at this time. If I am still behind in exp/levels, I do as many of my companion quests as I can.

After that, I go back through and do all of the "combat" quests I skipped earlier, and that usually pushes me to about level 22 or 23. Sometimes I have to grab a companion quest or two, or do the Abessa quests, but eventually I work my way up to level 25.

At level 25, I get my final promotion, and then from there I go onto some of the early story missions. After that, I just treat it like a sandbox game, exploring everywhere I go. If I ever get bored of exploring, I break down and do a story quest or two just to free up the monotony.

Hope this helps!

Played G2, G3, R1, R2, R3 so I'm an expert on PB games but non of them was so difficult at beginning. Completed maybe half of first city quests, and now I need to move outside but no matter what direction I hit, run into unkillable monsters. Im not even have a quest to visit other cities yet. I didnt expect an easy start but this is gone too far even for PB. I can just imagine what people feel playing PB's game for the first time.

G2 was actually way harder for me in the beginning. Or I was just worse at games back then. Dunno =P

Im' not hyper fan of Charles plan because it generates a too unballanced play without enough combats.

At replay I did another plan including quite more combats.
Take companion asap (Duras) and it can be very fast.
First training more focused on combats but with Trophy level and later Good Eater and later Trophy level 2, and so on.
Level up to 6 was pretty fast and you can do mulyiple combats with a companions and some key training for combats. It included get Ray and Falk rather fast.
At level 6 go to Origin (followed a Separatist patrol but there are other patrols leading there). At Origin and without leaving it, do everything and make Origin base, and level up to 9 jusr from that.

This is a very good suggestion if you want to play a melee or weapon-based character. Me, I play intelligence-based characters that focus on magic. Most of my combat skills are locked until I join a faction. That's why in my method I avoid combat early. It's all a matter of taste. I'd rather explore and get rich first, then worry about combat later. But if you're in the mood for early hack n' slash then yes, go for companions early and get some combat perks. Playing this way will require a great deal of skill on the higher difficulty settings, however. Don't be afraid to spam the 'F5' key.

I think both of these are viable, enjoyable ways to play the game. That's one of the things that makes RPGs so much fun!
