ELEX
Companions not attacking from combat triggered by dialog
Any fix for this HUGE GAME BREAKING BUG?? Seriously, what the hell is the worth of companions if they do not even fight for you?

There has to be SOME fix for this, a mod, or an INI tweak, or something, ANYTHING at all. Why is PB so uselessly incompetent that they cannot even fix this bug? It's almost as bad as their completely ♥♥♥♥ progression system (even worse than The Witcher 3's somehow).

Which fight?

If it's a duel, they won't interfere. That's normal.

(btw a gamebreaking bug is a bug which doesn't let you progress in the game - mostly related to the mainstory. If your companion doesn't help, you still have the option to beat the enemy without you companion and therfor it's per definition no gamebreakingbug but just a normal bug)
Which fight?

At level 4, probably Drog, the guard at Goliet. Or Bertram?

And yes, in duels, companions don't do the dirty work for you.

Against the outlaw. I got around it by simply attacking him without going through the dialog. It's quite sickening to know that there are more instances like this littered throughout the game.

Tell that to my character.

Not at all. Either play a Jax, who becomes the killer, or get away and return later.

?

Realistically in the world, why wouldn't my companion help me? It's not like all 3 parties agreed to a 1 on 1 duel, he said he was going to kill me through the dialog, and my companion just decided not to help, not because of any in-game or lore reason, but because PB in all of their incompetence decided not to fix this bug.

call it whatever you like but pretty sure pb coded it deliberately so since this situation repeats elsewhere in game. also why'd companion bother hanging around with you at all? irw...

They do that all the time. Under normal circumstances, most companions are the first to attack nearby foes even if you let Jax run past those. I write "most", because one specific companion is scripted to be more defensive.

Assuming you refer to Bigby, the "Bad Debts" outlaw hanging around in Edan below The Pit - if during conversation you ignore the option to resolve that mission peacefully with Ornir and explicitly choose to attack Bigby, it will be a scripted duel for this NPC for gameplay reasons. The game doesn't want you (player) to exploit companion fighting power so easily. It's also an honor thing. Yet you can choose to flee, and if you return, Bigby will be handled like any ordinary hostile NPCs, and your companion will join the fight.

It has been pointed out to you before that duels in ELEX are a feature, not a bug.

Realistically in any world inhabited by humans....

But it wasn't a duel, nor something we both agreed on with "honor". He simply said he would kill me, and combat was initiated.

It doesn't matter whether he ends conversation with an announced attack or whether you let Jax do that. With Bigby, the conversation tree contains an explicit option for Jax to launch an attack, if not choosing to end conversation as to talk to Ornir some more.

That is how duels with a single named human NPC work in ELEX - different than in the Gothic series (with its beat up NPC and rob them gameplay style or the explicit finishing move that was necessary to kill neutral/friendly humans/orcs), but it's a thing between you (Jax) and your opponent. If the companions (or nearby NPCs) did the dirty work, it would not be a duel anymore.

If you can't do it alone, flee like a coward and return later as a last resort. It will be an ordinary hostile NPC then.

Great, so it's a horrible system that doesn't even really make sense.

Why would it be "horrible"? It adds some entertainment. Assuming a companion like Duras, who is supposed to be a better warrior at the beginning of the game, would immediately duel Bigby for Jax, where would be the fun in that?

what he's missing's theatrics. yeah pb suck at that. they should've coded dialog where bigby tells your companion to stand down because he's dueling you. doesnt make much difference to me but others care it seems.

I care about immersion in what is supposed to be an immersive game? Wow, what a surprise!
