Can we play female?
I loved Gothic except purchased Gothic 3 and did not like that one because I spent the money and then never got it to function properly. Tried too long so I could not even ask for a refund.

Anyway - This game looks interesting enough in this desert of very good games and am considering getting it. However, will we be able to play a female char?
Being a female I don't really like playing a man, it is like cross dressing isn't it?

sorry no - male only. elex's several strengths which should in general compensate for lack of customization but ymmv.

In my opinion, men who don't play games with female protagonists are really missing out; Horizon: Zero Dawn, Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice, Remember Me, Life is Strange, The Longest Journey, Syberia, etc etc etc, are all wonderful games that they'd be hugely missing out for not playing. I don't see why the same can't be said for reverse of that.

If you enjoyed Gothic 1 and 2, I think you'd love Elex. Be aware that the difficulty early on can be... brutal. Even moreso than the Gothic games, though you can manipulate the difficulty quite significantly.

I'd strongly suggest picking it up on a sale if you're looking for a huge open-world RPG with action combat. There aren't many out there, and Elex is one of the best we've had in a while.

Well, you don't need to wear men's clothing when you play the game. ;-) Within the game, on the other hand, you are supposed to role-play a male main character with a fixed story background and a development of the story that wouldn't work as well as with a female player character.

Gothic 3 should work, if adding the community patch 1.75.x, which can be applied conveniently via the beta subscription channel at Steam.

1. Install the latest version of community patch for gothic 3. This game however will never be perfect because it was forced to be released in unfinished state by the publisher JoWood (filed for bankruptcy because of its suicidal policy).
2. No, it is not like a crossdressing. It is like taking control over character, and this character isn't you.
In various games you take control over cars, motorcycles, humans, elves, orcs, undeads, earthworms, alien hivemind armies, and attack helicopters. If players always were trying to get into the role of characters, only true genderfluid helisexuals could play all these games.

No.

just think you are a gay female transgender, crossdressing, and you have no ploblems. Like in Lara Croft. And gender is only a social construction, as we all know now^^. I like it how this question comes up every 3 weeks though the videos and description shows clearly that there is a fixed protagonist and after this long time sure everyone knows. Interesting is that I as a man have absolutely no problem to play Life is strange or Lara Croft while "so-called" "girls" can't play a male. Though it is said females are so much more flexible and multi....xyz than men.

No, no, joke aside. It is not like cross dressing as you say, my dear, it is called roleplaying or feeling into a role. And aren't females the big "feeling feelers"? So relax. Huh, I have an urgent need to go in the Lara Croft forum and ask about playing as a male, cause otherwise it is like cross dressing....

Hey, btw, gigi, darling, are you a girl or just feel that in your heart you are a girl? Or feel like a girl? Or were before a... oh, well, now it becomes complicated.....

So glad I've learned many years ago to put my glass of apple juice far away from my keyboard. *g*

right here i'll put forward following theory: playing male's unappealing to them because it lacks complexity ;)

For this kind of "complexity" it needs a female programmers team and much much wodka. ^^
And the danger is ever there that the code eats itself up and a black hole appears suddently..

..besides these jokes, a complex or uncomplex character is defined by the story and background, not by gender, and the protagonist here is very flat. Maybe some big breasts would have been a natural balance and made the character less "flat" ;)

oh, btw:

Congratulations to the thread #1000 since release of this game in the thematic range of:
why i can't play a woman?/Can I play a woman?/I don't buy and boycott the company cause they are sexist and I can't play a woman/Why I have to play a male?, aso. This is so penetrant that it is in itself sexistic. Playing a male role means the end of the world...

complex's one thing emotionally complex's yet another. imo it's true in most games male hero's simple except maybe morally. ofc reskin of jax as female wouldnt change that at all :)

yeah, was just a joke;) jax would even be remodeled to Supergirl flat as a desert landscape ;) I gladly would play this game as a female char, if the programmers did a job as awesome as with the scenery, with the background and complexity of a "jaxina". Could be also seen as some form of sexism that males nearly ever are mindless killing machines without emotions or complexity, mostly good trained, nice muzzles, best "george clooney style". The only emotion a man is "granted" is mostly aggression or "I want sex". Making it for sure more complex and much better to have a female protagonist. Or maybe this sexistic look on males would change and they are granted deeper emotions than those 2.... no, that for sure never happens.;) Not good to have "complex" men in the army or in job, they have to do what is said, not being "complex". ;)

It is funny, in all these years I have seen passing never men questioned the role they are pressed into. Maybe it is cause young men are so full of Testosterone that they anyways only think with what is between their legs and believe everything of the lies told to them, and old men (as they haven't died already) don't count.

Totally agree, if they assume Jax gender by appearance, it is lookism and misgendering as is, and also it is binary gender system which is very offensive.

No cryptic "side strike" to look for.
