I want to join clerics but....

but, he is in a high level area, i heard its best to join a clan asap but it seems like i cannot join who i want to, so can i join more then 1 clan?

you can only join one and only one faction. also beyond certain point story wont progress without faction.

Ignadon is occupied by more high-level beasts than say Edan and Abessa, but that shouldn't stop you from reaching and entering the Hort. From the Domed City, you can simply teleport to a teleporter in front of the Hort. There are multiple ways to enter it. One involves fighting, and you may be unable to do it early. Or perhaps your Jax finds a way to convince the guard. Finally, on the broken highway from the Domed City to the east, you can also meet Rainer, a Suggestor leading a patrol, with an option to "be recruited" by the clerics - IOW, you will wake up within the Hort.

Regardless of which faction you want to join, you should still visit all others in search for potential allies and missions you will benefit from. That is part of the story and Jax's special role as one, who will make a difference. As a low-level cleric, you would not stay in Ignadon, but return to Goliet, Domed City, Fort and work with the faction leaders.
