Has anyone actually managed to get near Calaan? Or is it impossible with the Radiation?

What do you hope to find there?

I'm not sure, it's more just curiosity to see it up close I guess

I doubt that it even has a collison mesh in the first place.

Ooof, don't remind me about Jax's poor jet :steamsad:
Well, if you want to climb on Jax's Alb Raider, do it before bringing it to Origin camp.

That sorta ticked me off too, the fact that before it went to Origin I was able to normally climb up on it and it had a collision mesh, but then in origin I can just walk right through it, makes no sense

In Origin the jet is too low to go underneath. Probably devs didn't want to reinvest into remodelling the jet or making a special platform for it, so they went for an easy way - deleted collision mesh.

Anyways, I wanted to bump tihs post to ask a question about this quest. When you get behind one of the closed doors, you get into the launch center of sorts with diary entries. One of them tells about an old lab with a "time" capsule. So I was wondering, that old buiding where you got some parts for your jet and found the first entries, is it that very lab? In case it is, where is the capsule with "worthy" people? I didn't find anything. And if not, where is that old lab?

Nevermind, I failed to see, that the whole bunker is the capsule. It should have been more hight-tech imo. This way it looks like all other industrial buildings.

Weeeell, yes and no? Magalan is an "alien" world. The bunker lab under the factory was the origination of the Calaan Project and was later moved to the site where the Ship stands now. The Calaan Project was also hastily created, ... so it probably used what was available at the time until it was decided to build an "Ark" type ship.

However, being an alien civilization, their technologic development is not quite the same as ours, ... yes, they have communication towers and radio astronomy, and their vehicles are very similar to ours (Humvees and Leopard Tanks), ... but there are subtle differences too, for instance, the style used for residential homes and industrial buildings, ... and their "atomic" or nuclear science was not as developed as ours.

So, maybe it should have looked more like the military base underneath The Fort? or the abandoned military site in Central Tavar? (I wouldn't count the Alb or Cleric tech as that was developed after the comet impact.)

They look like M1 Abrams. Where in the game have you seen Leopard tanks?

As far as I cand understand, most of these homes are "isberg tips" -- they submereged into the ground. So, basicaly, we see top floors.

My point was, that those brick walls just looked like industrial design from early 80-s. Plus there was no life-support equipment or any equipment at all (two or three analogue terminals), just some storage units. I thought it was some aditional storage floor to the factory.

Anyways. I think this is due to budget limitations and not intentional. As many assets are re-used in places you wouldn't think to find them.

I was a bit dissapointed by Calaan itself (in terms of realisation) -- the rocket was almost the same in size, even smaller than Appolo missions. It couldn't carry more that a dozen passangers. I was hoping to see something like in Destiny 1 - those enormous spaceships.

Today I find difficult to express myself.

Huh? Certainly you've learned while playing the game that the Calaan project was a total failure compared with what they had promised.

Sure. I remeber they said that they made several iterations of the project building it bigger every time. But this. This couldn't house even mechanics required to do the needed maintenance.

Such a view is much too negative. They had advertized something large without giving details, but in reality they've worked on a secret project only, a spaceship that was supposed to transport a small, carefully selected number of elite humans as to save the race. Similar to plans on Earth to reach Mars on a one-way trip and to establish a permanent base there. With the key difference, that compared with Earth, Magalan may be much nearer to directly inhabitable planets, where nothing like long term terra-forming may be required. It has been only a small list of people, and more and more people tried to get onto the list via bribery and other means.

Further, as far as I know, nothing is known about the state of development and whether the spaceship that can hardly be recognized as such on the launching pad, has been been tested successfully before. I guess, not. Or else some leaders from Infinite Skies may have used it to leave Magalan. It doesn't look like a space shuttle style vehicle with a carrier rocket. It looks more like generic spaceships - Battlestar Galactica and such. Its full length cannot be seen, because it continues below - one can fly into the radiation and develop a feeling for the size of it, perhaps it's 50 meters long - in the following picture there seem to be some crates left of it.

Anyway, the entire project was based on an illusion and false dreams. They didn't want to build something large, and they failed to build something small that did the job.

Now that you mention it... At first it really reminded me of our rockets. So I though only the upper cone piece was holding humans and the rest was just fuel tanks.

It would be interesting if ELEX 2 would use this ship to get to orbit/moon or to intercept enemy spaceships.
