Historically the company which has developed Elex also produced the much loved Gothic series along with various other titles in the same vein. Typically these games have scored above average to average reviews from critics but they have received a strong cult following. This following is particularly strong in Germany (the developers home country if I'm not mistaken).
While the Gothic franchise and their other titles have often suffered from various flaws they have usually provided immserive worlds which you can completely lose yourself in, should you look past the rough edges.
Another point of consideration is that these titles tend to have a somewhat steep learning curve which is often off putting for many potential players.
I'm sure there are others within the community who can provide further insight.
PC version looks good and runs very well (60-70 fps for me the whole time so far)
AKA, PC version is always best for PB games.
This "Fanbase" criticized Gothic 3. Risen 2 and Risen 3. Contrary to your belief they don't just praise bad games only because they are from PB. Those people just wanted another game in the spirit of Gothic 2 and they got it, so they give positive reviews. People on the console maybe wanted something else, so they are disapointed.
People like Eisberg try to sound logical when logic dictates that people without blinders don't just have opinions - they are stating the experience and a LOT of the data for ELEX says its the same cheap crap PB keeps churning out and then modders save it (some) and they make just enough money b/c Germany is a welfare state that supports them to churn out another .......
I find it amusing how smooth the game release is compared to most AAA game releases now which need day one patching and are still riddled with bugs including ones that prevent quests to complete and stories to progress (Had this issue in both FO 4 and FF 15 as examples)
The game is enjoyable and does have flaws but that doesn't stop it from being an enjoyable experiance.
Traditionally RPG's don't do very well on consoles, because it's a different audience. I won't say it's a more casual audience, because that would be too generic. However - It's no denying that games on consoles are most times fast paced. And Elex is no game you can running into everything you see and bash away. So - There will be a disconnect between what was expected (fast paced with emphysis on fighting), and what Elex is (not rushing, and be selective with whom you start a fight, or even try to avoid a fight at all)
