Compared to say Skyrim?

it a lot more dense so it's a bad comparison. here i already 4 hours in start location and it seems like very small chunk on world map

ok..ive played all of PB games so definitely wont be skimping on this one as well - was just wanting to know the game world size ..and of course the first few patches b4 i pick it up...but i am still curious - skyrim big?

It is a huge game, from what I have seen and also I have heard from others who are further into the game that it is pretty damn huge! Also the devs said it is a bigger world than they did in Gothic 3, which was already huge.

Well if you played all the PB games, then you played Gothic 3, and Elex is 1.5x the size of Gothic 3.

ooh - G3 was pretty big (buggy as hell but I loved it). thanks - i get the perspective now.

The desert and ice areas seem to be less "packed with stuff" than the starting area, but overall, the density of things to explore is really high, and with a lot of vertical elements, too. Stuff tends to repeat itself though, can't tell how many "old-world houses with treasures and strong enemies in them" I've found so far, and there seems to be little to no story connected to those places.

They said 1.5 times the size of the Gothic 3 mapsize.

No, just a much more fair and honest post that doesn't line up with your current negativity.

I don't see how those don't line up.

The density of "stuff" to explore is pretty high in Elex, I don't deny that. The only real difference between the post above and my current opinion, is that it seems like I wasn't yet aware of how imbalanced certain ways to gather Elex are, and how little actual gameplay related rewards the world holds otherwise.

But overall my opinion of the game is still not negative, like I said in that other thread. I think overall it's a good game that has some deep flaws that ruin the experience a bit. When it comes to exploration, those are the exact things that I also mentioned in the post above, the areas are repeatitive and mostly void of meaningful storylines.

My "negativity" in that other thread comes from the fact that I'm arguing with a guy who seems utterly offended by the idea that I think a smaller world that the devs could fill with more story-based content would lead to a better experience. And who tries to dismiss any arguments I make about game design with "But I don't feel that way!".

"Utterly offended"? Seriously? It must be your negativity that makes you develop such theories.

Not a quote, not a quote.

I don't feel that way is very legitimate argument. Everyone has different approaches and expectations so you can't expect everyone to feel the same way. That's not how the world works.

For example when I had more free time I enjoyed bigger maps. Now I don't have that time so would be comfortable with smaller maps which I can fully explore. Both arguments are legit from their own perspective.

What would be your priorities, if facing time constraints? To insist on being able to do a completionist playthrough thanks to a smaller ingame world? Or to reach the game's end a single time only without being able to explore every bit and every corner of a large ingame world?

Definitely complete run of a smaller world. I have finished risen 1 and 2, but never 3. Never finished Gothic 3 and Elex either. Nowadays if a game takes more than 40-50 hours, I'll probably not be able to finish it before the next great title arrives.

So D'amarr just necro'd a 2yr old topic because of some hostility he has with you about an argument in another Elex thread?

How am I not surprised.
