On a side note, each faction has a difficulty rating so to speak. If you want a challenge, you should choose the Outlaws. If you want normal difficulty, you should choose Berserkers. If you want the easiest path, choose the Clerics. To take it a step further, Outlaws are like barbaric or Mad Max society of lawless drug addicts that do their own thing. Berserkers are you peace loving, high fantasy types with access to spells. Clerics are religious fanatics who worship technology.
Why/how are the Clerics the easiest path?
clerics can get an addition +50dmg on ranged attacks. youll 2-3 shot absolutly everything
clerics also have a blackhole spell that dmgs multipl enemys in an area, with insane dmg 1-3 shots everything
( you can even shot n cast while flying )
wouldnt call outlaws hard anyway, a +3 chainsword with bleed also 2-3 shots everything, only down side you re in melee range n realy have to get used to dodge n jetpack in combat
i tend to say berserk is the beginner way, its the 1st capitol you reach, the enemies in that area aint as threatening as around the hort or fort.
also berserk have a heal spell, which will save alot of money since it heals stronger than potions n needs less manapotions.
Beserkers are mostly melee specialists, and melee isn't favourable in ELEX. It can work (and work well), but by accident or design, it is not as easy as ranged combat. They have spells to make up for this. If it is 'easier' to win by joining a specific faction, then by that logic the other factions you didn't join are 'harder', not easier, hence calling the Berserkers a beginner choice (if it is harder to beat the game) makes no real sense. It is no different in all the other Gothic games -- you always encounter one of the three factions right at the start, but it is up to you whether you join them or wander off to the other two that are further away.
As for the questions:
Joining a faction will impact how certain individuals react to you, not other factions as a whole. You can still work with/visit the others, but you cannot access their specific armour-sets or abilities if you're with someone else.
Eg. You can join the Berserkers, head to the Outlaw base and quest there to your hearts content, but you cannot get Outlaw armour or train Outlaw abilities, and some NPC's will be a bit bitter about dealing with a Berserker.
