Depends on who you're fighting, check out this video from one of the best ELEX video creators on the internet:

Yea but the Video is just about 2 Elements.

And you cant "change" the damage type you add a Element dmg to the Normal Weapon Damage and only for Mele Weapons.

Berserkers: Fire, Poision, Ice
Kleriks: Stasis, Psy, Energie
Outlaws: Bleeding, Radiation

And one Sword i found got Lightning.

In my opinion the most usefull per Faction is Fire / Energie / Bleeding.

Well I have a weapon with energy damage already and I'm able to mod it, so am I adding a second damage type onto it?

No you replace it.
And if the Weapon is level 1 with Energie and you upgrade it to level 2 you must craft also a new Enchant (its because its much cheaper at level 1 than at level 2 or 3)

So you can change the type then. Thanks for the info.

You can change it all the time but its not worth doing it if there is allready on on your weapon because its very expensive.
Level 3 will cost you 7500 Shards.

... For 1H weapon. It cost 9000 + materials for tear 3 2H weapon. And you need comparable amount of elexit for upgrade 2H weapon from 0 to max level.

I used a psi sword on my cleric run, which worked OK, but I used it mostly in emergencies or close quarters. Energy is probably better, judging from what hits me hardest.

PSI is weak overall but not a lot of enemies have resistance to it, so it is a decent option if your goal is not to worry about switching wepaons for the right mobs.

Energy and fire damage are easily the two best elements overall, but there are specific enemies with very high resistances to them.

Poison is bad. Too many enmies have high resistance to it.

Ice is really good if you are using a slow weapon, like maces and 2h axes. But don't bother on swords and 1h axes.

Electric damage is good against machines but not much else. You're probably better off using the plasma rilfe's EMP mode instead.

Poison is bad ? I thought only swamp spiders ( dunno how they named in english version ) immune to poison. Am i wrong ?

Fire is good ( vs mutants especially ) but some enemies have resistances too.

That's kinda correct. Poison is generally weak against insects, and, for some reason, Jackals. It's extremely good against rock trolls though. Fire is weak against stuff like rippers (lizards), or fiery animals of tavar like desert devils, also weak against the rock trolls.

Poison isn't terrible, but it's certainly totally outclassed by the alternatives. Maybe describing it as "bad" was inappropriate. Posion is very suboptimal.

Poison is good when fire is not, for example Chimera and Ignadon trolls. It's good to have weapons with different damage types. I'm rolling with fire and poison weapons and i've yet to encounter an enemy i can't damage properly. Robots burn just fine, heck, they can even be poisoned!

Poison has extra benefit when you travel with Caja - her fireballs cause fire DOT and your fire DOT will not stack.

I'm pretty sure shock is the best damage type because Clerics must be OP.

Why??? Game description says nothing about this damage type, but I read in forum that it slow down enemies. If that's the point of ice, when using ice fist I didn't noticed much slow down, plus I don't see why it's more useful for 2H than for 1H.

Ice fist has a much weaker slow effect. And if you can't see why it'd be better on 2h weapons, maybe you should compare the speed of the swings of 1h vs 2h, and how often that difference leads to getting hit more often with 2h weapons. Slowed enemies' swing speed is also lowered. Hope this helps you understand
