Mandatory Contribution quest - need advice
Hi All,

I'm stuck with moral dillemas on subject quest. On the one hand I want to solve this quest peacefully, moreover Emmett does want peaceful solution. On the other hand I see red in my eyes when talk with Richard and I want to eliminate him.
What are long term consequences for killing Richard in addition to "what have you done" from Emmett?

Thanks!

When I got to that quest I didn`t like Richard The Cleric too much. So he died quickly. Then game showed me with red letters that his dead will change course of the story or sth like that. Hmm. Still didn`t like him but it looked obvious that killing him will bring revenge on Emmet and his merry gang of dirt-diggers. On second aproach I payed 2000 then run quickly to Emmet and finished the quest. After that I went quickly after Richard and his friend. They, again, died quickly. This time I got no red letters from game so I assumed that Richard The Cleric played his one and only role. Sad thing is that he managed to hide or spend my 2k duirmg these 20 seconds. What I looted was worth 100 pieces at most. Well, always better then nothing ;)

I know this is an ancient thread, but I have a perverse addition to the conversation about this mission. I chose to pay the bribe, but then on a hunch I followed the Clerics after they left. Sure enough, some hundreds of yards away around the bend from the farm they encountered a skex and both wound up in combat with it; we - Ray and I - just stood and observed, neither helping nor attacking them. The skex prevailed, killing Richard first and then his guard. I was quite happy with this outcome.

I returned to Emmet, and was immediately dragged into a conversation where Emmet accused US of killing Richard and lamenting the consequences for them. The game pranked me and laid the blame for the deaths on me! Never mind that Emmet never left the farm and couldn't have possibly known what happened so far out of sight.

I replayed the Cleric encounter again, this time completing the dialog with Emmet BEFORE going to watch Richard eat dirt, which he still did, even sooner than before. Finally that time the game changed its response, not holding us to blame. I even returned to Emmet afterward, and he was still warm to us and thanked me for aiding Deflet.

Necroing because my experience was different.

I also wanted to resolve this quest peacefully but before Richard even finishes his dialogue with Emmet he just pulls his hammer and attacks Emmet..

I don't even get the option to talk to Richard, he just attacks after a while and i'm forced to let Emmet die or kill Richard..

It seems as a bug - something triggers hostility before dialog resolution. Reload, different timing, another set of actions during quest - still same result?

Yeah I reloaded it several times, same result each time.

It's not the only instance of things being a bit screwy sadly, there are a few instances in the game where the dialogue doesn't quite work.. like something got skipped or some lines of dialogue are missing.
Siding with Emmet has been possible here always. 800 XP for that.
