For two people in the same room, you can use the Local Area Network function.
It's probobly too much to expect nowadays with DEVS selling incoplete " early access " games :}
Thx , it doesn't work. Or I'm doing somethig wrong. I've spent last 3 hours trying to make it work with my friend on the steamspeak... :|
The guide I linked to 54 minutes ago explains very simply, and in great detail, the steps required to make this game function in a multiplayer capacity. Opening a text document and typing fewer words than either of these posts is all that's required.
If it has been less than two weeks, and you have less than two hours of playtime, you're still able to refund the game.
"(Bashing DEVS that don't exist anymore, ..." - -_-' did the game port to steam by itself??
I ment the people who put it here. Besides, it was a "general" bash, I read some griefs today ;)
"Judging by your demeanor ..." - you are a poor Judge and a poor guesser Sir or Madam.:]
So it happens I found this guide eariler prior to you posting it here.
And me and my friend tried it. Does not work. (will try again tomorrow)
Do not misunderstand me Sir or Madam , I am thankful for your contribution.:)
I am not however nor do I need to be proficient in fixing games or setting ports, I am a paying customer and I expect the product to be up to specs .
I am not like Fallout 4 fans who expect modders to "fix it" ;P
Oooh , I do not intend to do a refound. I love MoO2 mucho! Even if I don't make it playable on MP , I will keep it for singleplay and sentimental value. :)
Thx again, keep up the good work!
Ofcourse I don't know which part causes you trouble, but just a guess:
In the "IPXNET CONNECT 192.168.0.14" part, did you replace the number-stuff with the IP of the PC you want to connect to?
If someone can play with it, pls help me ^^
Hey :) Sorry for the silence, I was out for new year's ;)
Yes ,we did. We tried both ways to be the server, my friend set my IP and it didn't work and then I tried his IP, also didn't work.
Could be the port forwording, as Erdzengel mentioned , I suppose.
I tried messing with router settings, I'm not sure I did it right :(, like I said earlier, I'm green in the technical stuff.
It's simple enough, but...
"if you are hosting over the internet, you may need to forward udp port 213 to your machine."
I was
1). MoO2 aside maybe you should have. The problem is that even with this skill not every user can forward ports, because most users are behind ISP NAT that makes it impossible. Such users need special software to connect directly. Most commonly known is Hamachi, but i can't recommend it, my personal experience was poor.
2). Anyway, for moo2 it's easier to use public server moo2.thedopefish.com. This is dosbox ipx server. In both configs use:
ipxnet connect moo2.thedopefish.com
Then one creates moo2 game then the other joins. Let us know if it does't work.
3). Note, that this is a third party server, not endorsed by steam or gog or me. The owner kindly keeps it up to simplify setting up moo2 network games. If it's too slow or goes offline or has any other problem you are back at 1) and have to learn port forwarding or use some form of vpn.
4). Also anyone with public ip address can run such server, the project code is here: https://github.com/intangir/ipxnet . But for this you already have to know what's public ip and how to forward ports.
Hi :). thx for necroBUMP ;P
I am aware of what the MP is. That is non issue here. Know and love it :D
What this rage post is about is I expected a working game with all it's functions and I didn't get it.
------------------------------------------
Thanks for the explanation! But I still have a couple of questions, I´m afraid..
Do I have to keep any of the commands from the _client or _server templates in the standard config file or shall I just add the line "ipxnet connect moo2.thedopefish.com" at the end of the standard config file?
Thanks in advance!
Heiko
