Any counter to canons?
Lasers rusher can be countered with shields, but canons? the more I play the more I understand why people favor them over the laser (while being cheaper!). A counter would be nice, unless there is one I don't know about.

The counter is to have armor if you're simple.

Or you just defeat people with miniguns (not mg's) because they all rush the flippin cannon, we are almost undefeated with this strategy.
Rush MG's, make enemies pay for defenses. Upgrade asap to Miniguns, use the commander to make your shots explosive -> GG.
The only counter against this is if the other team does either the same but better, or they use snipers. Cannonrushes are not working unless you're really good with snipers that keep the enemie MG's under control. If you make your enemy pay more ressources than you do investing into those Miniguns then you can slowly progress to your own cannons.

Bonus, if the enemy DOES rush cannons despite your efforts and you have aimed at them, the moment they open the gunports your miniguns shred the cannons. But you need to observe your enemy and constantly hammer them with the miniguns so they can't counterattack you. 1 battery (3 Miniguns) per player is the absolute minimum, if you manage to bring 4 x 3 Miniguns onto the field you can punch through every armor with the standard Commander (dont bother with other commanders for this).

Don't bother with mortars.

What I though, I was thinking of more defensive options, but killing them before they have them seems like the best thing to do.
I already use the x3 minigun+explosive, it's effective and put lots of pressure on the oppenent, with a friend of mine we sync our shots, we have yet to be beaten with that, being aimed at by x6 (or more) minigun buffed with explosive is effective.

Armor? The thing is that canon just cheese through metal, it helps but doesn't prevent the shots from reaching the core or doing decisive damages. Shields block the shot but are destroyed, so not worth building.

Also, thanks for your help.

Can you upload a screenshot of one of your mini guns forts on steam?

Angled armour can help. It only takes out one piece. Also conceal your defences.
Of course 2-3 canons hitting the same spot will break trough. If they only have one you can out repare one canon if you know where it is fireing from and angle the armour. Once a big weapon is built it starts an energy resource war to power the canon/lazer shots. An armour cost more minerals then energy so your minerals don't go to waste. Upgraded mines help.

The ONLY weapon in the game that should be used to kill an enemy fort is a heavy mortar. every other weapon is trash in comparison when you look at high level game play of this game. if you want proof, friend me, add me on discord, check out my youtube, idc.

cannon rushers don't use ressources on defensive building. You can destroy them with mortars or double-warhead. Laser rushers can easily destroy one of their mines to build swarm missile siloes to destroy the shields or build cannons, or fire warhead to destroy the shield and armour

except for all the maps where mortar range is too short

How does sandbag handle a cannon shot?
Romerolagus  [developer] Jun 18, 2019 @ 1:27pm
Cannons do 700 direct damage, and another 40 splash when they detonate. A sandbag has 250 health, so each sandbag takes 250 of the direct damage off. Splash affects everything in the Area of Effect, so that isn't mitigated.

at the time of posting this, there was two maps out of about 15 where the range was too long and they were extrememly unpopular. mortars were also alot stronger and shot alot farther. I quit the game because of balance changes like that. one reason of many.
