There are a couple of things you can try...

- make sure your graphics card is set to high performance mode in nVidia control panel (or AMD equivalent)
- update windows and graphics drivers (especially Geforce Experience)
- enable vsync under options>video

If you have already tried these, please do the following:

In Steam, under games, right click on Forts, click properties, click Local Files, click Browse Local Files. You should see a users folder, in there you should see your user name, and in there you should find log.txt. Please send us that file.

Also run DxDiag by clicking on the windows start menu and typing dxdiag. Click "Save all info" and send us that file too.

Send those files to info@earthworkgames.com with a description of the problem.

Thanks for your help!.

Cheers,
Noze

In the end we discovered that the NVIDIA drivers were not installed properly, and so Forts and other OpenGL games were rendering in software, which is extremely slow. If you open up Forts/users/<Name>/log.txt and there is a line that says:

video card vendor: Microsoft corporation

You are having the same problem. Contact us at info@earthworkgames.com for guidance.

Thx bros
For me it was the windows update (the one after wannacry virus) who corrupted my Nvidia pilot, never saw that before, thanks for the help devs :D (and thank Freak160)
Continue to have fun and make us enjoy your great work ;)
Cheers!

It may also be due to freesync. At least that was the case with me.
Yes please Check freesync and or Vsync before more drastic messures. I deleted all my mods before trying it and it did nothing. DISABLE VSYNC IN OPTIONS FIRST!!
