Fire laser vs normal laser?
The only thing I can see is the fire laser has over the normal laser is less energy but late game that's never really a problem for me and the build time is also incredibly long. I'd rather have the laser do some damage. The fire laser only seems to do a bit a damage and then set a lot of stuff on fire which I find fire to be a very non-problem, except when you put all the fire out and it keeps burning anyways*.

To the normal laser, it does a load more damage which is just better entirely. In late game I want to blast the other person and kill them faster, the fire laser doesn't do that at all as it seems more like a light harrasment laser onpar with spamming emp missles (my reaction "Oh that's annoying, whatever -spams R-). It's a pretty worthless laser to me that'd I'd think would be a better fit around with the flak and emp launcher with maybe a longer cool down since it is still a laser, but I don't think it has much use outside of mid game.

I realise that at the time of writing this I only have 12 hours, but that's just the amount of time for me to realise how worthless this laser is. I only use it for comparisons, never used it outside of comparisons.

*I'm not saying this is a bug, but I often try to put out fires quickly and come back 20 seconds later to find the fire is even bigger. I don't think it's a bug and it's probably just me rushing through repairs but it's definitionally annoying.

Fire beam is cheaper and not stopped by armor. Also a good choice for firebird.

It's main feature, I think is that you can use it to set your own projectiles on fire. Sort of like a combo. The benefit for bullets is obvious but I don't know for sure what it does to missiles. All I know is they explode after a certain travel time / distance but it didn't look like they were dealing anymore damage or something.

Anyway, since they're cheaper and penetrate armor you can probably use them to snipe cannons and stuff from behind their doors.

The penetration of the Firebeam is based on distance from the first solid strut, so even if a player has 5 doors in front of a weapon you can apply damage to it. The laser will only break 2 doors and apply no damage to the weapon. The Firebeam does apply light damage to materials, devices and weapons. You could cycle two or three Firebeams in the same location to keep the fires burning. You could also sweep the entire face of an enemy fort to ignite it.

As Yggdrasil mentioned you can ignite your own projectiles. This adds an incendiary effect, but also increases their direct damage or splash damage by about 25%. If you ignite enemy projectiles early you can block them entirely, especially cannon projectiles. One of the most common complaints before Tons of Guns was there was no way to defend against cannons. It wasn't true, but now you can block them perfectly with a Firebeam, if you are prepared for it. You can also use this to destroy anti-air fire targeting your missiles or rockets.

It's unlikely to end the game unless you can get some direct hits on the reactor, but in combination with other weapons it should prove to be very useful.

I just noticed the combo of ballistic missiles + fire beam is insane. You can use 2 fire beams, one above the other below your missiles, to form a cooridor flak shells and MG cannot enter. So not only do your missiles deal a very noticable 25% bonus splash but they get also next to impossible to intercept.

The fire beam is good at destroying canons or heavy weapons behind doors, well that is if you hit it right

Armourdillo can now see the position of hidden armour and shields during his active. Not as good as Spook's ability, but good for working out where weapons are and if the doors are open.
