I'm happy to inform you that your anti-virus software has reported a false-positive. Forts has been scanned by Norton Security which gave it the all clear. It's not uncommon for games wrapped in Steam's DRM to trigger some AV programs.

Hello, I'm french so sorry for my bad english.
I confirm that my antivirus (BitDefender) has detected a virus (Gen: Trojan.Heur2.GZ. @ NW @ bemHXLp.) In the Forts.exe file.
And my antivirus never reported a false positive....

I tested the current exe on https://www.virustotal.com, which checks it against 72 anti-virus/malware engines. There were 5 positive tests from Baidu, CrowdStrike Falcon, Sophos ML, Bkav, and Cylance. The remaining 67 said the file was clean, including BitDefender and F-Secure. Screenshot here[www.dropbox.com]. I double checked Kaspersky directly, which said it's clean.

Valve's advice on the topic is that Anti-virus software often interferes with games and they do commonly make false positives: "The Steam application or Steam game has been mistakenly identified as a virus or "trojan" by certain software as a result of the development of potentially-malicious programs which use the same filenames as valid Steam files"

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=4361-MVDP-3638

Take from that what you will. We take the safety of our files seriously and run comprehensive and up-to-date anti-virus on our development machines.

Not to sound snarky, but Norton is very, very unreliable now a days.

Says who? On this issue Norton is in agreement with 66 other AV databases.

some of which are avast and mcafee so you might want to re-think that argument.

As of today Virus Total reports that only Cylance thinks Forts.exe is unsafe. Avast and McAfee and 66 others have no problem with it:

Since this thread was necro'd anyway I would just like to say Trend Micro (Something where I can literally go to virus riddled places and click every link I find and ultimately not have any issues) says this is OK.

I have no had problem with forts doing anything to my computer and my anti-virus has detected no virus.

some people should stick to consoles as they seem to be confused my the nuances of a computer

Just FYI for people who see this thread and get alarmed - the latest exe has been digitally signed by EarthWork Games Pty Ltd. You can right click on Forts.exe, go to properties, and inspect it in 'Digital Signatures' tab. We'll be doing this for any future updates too.

Virus Total shows no problems detected with the most recent version:

Virus: Gen:Trojan.Heur2.GZ.@NX@bWx6ixf (Engine A)
Engines: Engine A: AVA 25.22421, Engine B: GD 25.15351
